{"id":10237,"date":"2025-08-08T13:44:32","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T17:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=10237"},"modified":"2025-08-08T13:44:32","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T17:44:32","slug":"appeals-court-tosses-contempt-order-against-trump-officials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/featured\/appeals-court-tosses-contempt-order-against-trump-officials\/njackson\/2025\/08\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeals Court Tosses Contempt Order Against Trump Officials"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A federal appeals court panel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cadc.41957\/gov.uscourts.cadc.41957.01208764800.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted 2-1<\/a>\u00a0Friday to scrap a judge\u2019s probable cause finding to hold Trump administration officials in\u00a0criminal contempt for disobeying his order\u00a0to turn around deportation flights ultimately destined for El Salvador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit\u00a0ruled the administration was entitled to an intervention because U.S. District Judge\u00a0James Boasberg\u2019s\u00a0efforts to punish administration officials raised immediate concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe order forces a coequal branch to choose between capitulating to an unlawful judicial order and subjecting its officials to a dubious prosecution,\u201d wrote U.S. Circuit Judge\u00a0Neomi Rao,\u00a0who was in the majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard, an appointee of former President Obama, dissented.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEven when faced with what reasonably appeared to him to be foot dragging, evasion, and outright disregard for his jurisdiction and his orders, he responded with unfailing composure,\u201d Pillard wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe majority does an exemplary judge a grave disservice by overstepping its bounds to upend his effort to vindicate the judicial authority that is our shared trust,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Boasberg entered the national limelight for being assigned the first lawsuit when Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act in March to swiftly deport alleged Venezuelan gang members to a notorious Salvadoran megaprison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a hastily convened Saturday hearing that weekend, Boasberg ordered the administration turn around any airborne planes deporting migrants under the rarely invoked statute.
