If you are bona fide news, you don\u2019t have to give candidates equal air time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBut Disney and <em>The View<\/em> have not established that that program is, in fact, bona fide news,\u201d Carr added. \u201cWe\u2019ve started enforcement proceedings, taking a look at that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Investigation Comes Amid Colbert Controversy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carr\u2019s remarks came after late-night host Stephen Colbert claimed CBS lawyers discouraged <em>The Late Show<\/em> from airing an interview with Texas State Rep. James Talarico, a Democrat running in the state\u2019s U.S. Senate primary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colbert suggested the network was concerned about new FCC guidance regarding the equal-time rule, which requires broadcasters using public airwaves to provide equal opportunities to opposing political candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was Democrat-on-Democrat violence,\u201d Carr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/fcc-chair-brendan-carr-sets-record-straight-stephen-colbert-censorship-claims\">told<\/a> Fox News host Laura Ingraham. He argued CBS did not block the interview outright, but instead warned that airing it could trigger equal-time requirements for other candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCBS was very clear that Colbert could run the interview that he wanted with that political candidate,\u201d Carr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/trump-fcc-chair-confirms-hes-started-enforcement-proceedings-against-the-view\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cThey just said, you may have to comply with equal time\u2026 But instead of doing that, they claimed that they were victims.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBS later issued a statement denying it barred the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe Late Show was not prohibited by CBS from broadcasting the interview with Rep.
