Newly released Justice Department files have shed additional light on private communications between former Trump strategist Steve Bannon and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, raising fresh questions about the nature of their relationship during the final years of Epstein\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The documents, which include text messages and emails from late 2017 through Epstein\u2019s arrest in July 2019, show that Bannon \u2014 a key figure in the MAGA movement and former White House chief strategist \u2014 remained in contact with Epstein long after Epstein\u2019s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The files indicate that the two discussed politics, the growing pressure on the Trump administration after Democrats regained control of the House in 2018, and even the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most notable exchanges began on New Year\u2019s Eve 2018. In the conversation, Bannon wrote that the \u201cWH,\u201d widely understood to mean the White House, had \u201czero plan to punch back\u201d amid intensifying political attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Epstein replied, referring to Trump: \u201cHe is really borderline. Not sure what he may do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bannon responded: \u201cI think it\u2019s beyond borderline \u2014 25 amendment,\u201d referencing the constitutional process that allows a president to be removed if deemed unable to fulfill the duties of office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In another message, Bannon added that \u201cwe really need an intervention\u201d regarding Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The disclosure has sparked backlash among conservatives, many of whom have long demanded greater transparency surrounding Epstein\u2019s network of powerful associates and the government\u2019s handling of his case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Former national security adviser Michael Flynn wrote on X that if \u201cBannon AND Epstein were behind it, Bannon needs to be brought in for questioning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., also criticized the relationship, writing that there was \u201cno excuse for having such a friendly relationship with Epstein, post conviction, 2018-19. None.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
