Olympic bobsled champion Kaillie Humphries made a surprising gesture at the White House Thursday: she handed President Donald Trump her Order of Ikkos medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And she did it with tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The moment came during a Women\u2019s History Month event on March 12, when Humphries said she wanted to thank Trump for standing up for women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cI want to recognize the support and the impact you\u2019ve had on women\u2019s sports throughout the Olympic movement \u2014 specifically standing up to keep biological women in women\u2019s sports, to keep the field of play safe and allow for fair competition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Humphries explained that every Olympic medalist receives an Order of Ikkos, a medal designed to honor someone who helped them reach the podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Athletes usually give it to a coach or mentor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Humphries chose a president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cSo we only get one,\u201d she told Trump before presenting the medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m so honored to present this, my Order of Ikkos medal, to you, Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Trump lit up at the gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cWow! I knew I liked her!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Humphries also pointed to the administration\u2019s support for IVF, saying policies expanding access to fertility treatments could help her grow her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI believe this actually makes you the first president in history to ever be awarded an Order of Ikkos as well,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
