\u201cAnd it was the most anti-climatic thing ever. He goes, \u2018Oh, by the way, you know, you\u2019re going to be the White House press secretary, right?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her response: \u201cOh, okay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump quickly moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd he said, \u2018So about that other thing, what do you think about that? What should we do? What should we say?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat was it. That\u2019s how I got the job,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leavitt emphasized there was \u201cno pomp and circumstance,\u201d calling the moment \u201ctrue Donald Trump fashion\u201d and noting that \u201cthere really wasn\u2019t a process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time, she had been working as a spokesperson on Trump\u2019s 2024 campaign after losing her congressional bid in New Hampshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought, I hope I\u2019ll get a job. I don\u2019t know if I will,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leavitt, who gave birth to her son in July 2024, is currently nine months pregnant with a daughter \u2014 adding another layer of intensity to a role she says began with little more than an offhand comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
