Former New York City Mayor\u00a0Rudy Giuliani\u00a0is recovering from pneumonia after being hospitalized on Sunday, his spokesperson said in providing an update on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesman also said Giuliani\u2019s battle with pneumonia was affected by his response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attack on New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Giuliani was serving as New York\u2019s mayor when the Twin Towers were hit by planes in an attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Giuliani \u201cran toward the towers to help those in need, which later led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease,\u201d spokesman Ted Goodman wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition,\u201d Goodman wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
