{"id":12507,"date":"2026-07-16T15:03:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=12507"},"modified":"2026-07-16T15:03:49","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:03:49","slug":"congressional-candidate-sparks-outrage-with-unhinged-anti-trump-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/featured\/congressional-candidate-sparks-outrage-with-unhinged-anti-trump-video\/njackson\/2026\/07\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional Candidate Sparks Outrage With Unhinged Anti-Trump Video"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Republican congressional candidate and former U.S. Marine has triggered a firestorm after posting a bizarre video branding President Donald Trump \u201cthe Antichrist\u201d and declaring that he \u201cmust be killed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William Upham, a write-in candidate for Florida\u2019s 5th Congressional District, delivered the nearly seven-minute religious and political rant while wearing a Marine Corps uniform\u2014even though the service says he was medically discharged more than a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upham initially presented his campaign as an effort to restore bipartisanship, return power to working Americans and \u201cfix our broken political system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the video took a dark turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe are led by a president who is the enemy of God,\u201d Upham said, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-x\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/teiC4Yr1v6\">pic.twitter.com\/teiC4Yr1v6<\/a><\/p>&mdash; William Upham (@uphamforflorida) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/uphamforflorida\/status\/2076829011548717242?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 14, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After quoting Bible passages and invoking the oath he took as a Marine officer to defend the Constitution \u201cagainst all enemies, foreign and domestic,\u201d Upham leveled an extraordinary accusation against the commander in chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt in my mind that the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, is the Antichrist,\u201d Upham said. \u201cHe is a false messiah. And he is your enemy. And he must be killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Upham claimed Trump\u2019s criticism of Pope Leo XIV and a previously posted AI-generated image depicting the president in Christ-like imagery helped shape his conclusion, according to the <a>New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHe is nothing like Jesus Christ,\u201d Upham said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Later in the video, he urged Americans to consider whether they were \u201cworshiping a false idol\u201d before declaring: \u201cPresident Trump is the Antichrist. And he will be killed and sent to hell. God will prevail against evil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upham also said violence should never be used for \u201cevil purposes such as vengeance or plunder,\u201d an assertion sharply at odds with his earlier declaration about the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Marine Corps swiftly disavowed the former officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe Marine Corps is aware of the disturbing statements made by William Upham, who was medically discharged on May 30, 2025,\u201d the service said in a statement posted to X. \u201cThe comments made by Upham are a direct violation of the oath he swore to uphold and are not in keeping with the service\u2019s values.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Upham served in the Marines from 2021 until 2025 and reached the rank of first lieutenant, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/news\/marines-william-upham-trump\/\">Task &amp; Purpose<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao also condemned the candidate\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnacceptable,\u201d Cao wrote on X. \u201cWilliam Upham is no longer a Marine and does not represent our values or ethos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-x\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Unacceptable. William Upham is no longer a Marine and does not represent our values or ethos. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VdCQTGCpa4\">https:\/\/t.co\/VdCQTGCpa4<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao (@SECNAV) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SECNAV\/status\/2077183967048896830?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 15, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Secret Service confirmed that it was aware of the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. Secret Service is aware of the comments made by a congressional candidate in Florida, and we investigate anything that can be perceived as a threat toward one of our protectees,\u201d a spokesperson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/former-marine-running-congress-says-trump-antichrist-must-killed-shocking-video\">Fox News Digital<\/a>. \u201cOut of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The violent rhetoric is especially alarming after multiple assassination attempts against Trump and the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the national attention generated by his video, Upham appears to be a fringe contender in the August 18 Republican primary. He is running as a write-in candidate against five-term incumbent Rep. John Rutherford, conservative radio personality Mark Kaye and Donald Muirheid, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida%27s_5th_Congressional_District_election%2C_2026\">Ballotpedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No reputable public opinion poll located as of Thursday showed measurable support for Upham. One prediction-market tracker gave Rutherford a roughly 93% chance of winning the nomination, however it&#8217;s important to note that prediction-market odds are not the same as voter polling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rutherford also begins the race from a commanding position. The former Jacksonville sheriff won reelection in 2024 with more than 63% of the vote, carrying the heavily Republican district by approximately 26 percentage points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upham\u2019s own campaign website describes him as a Marine, prosecutor and Republican running \u201cfor God and country.\u201d It also promises voters: \u201cNo more insiders. No more extremism.
