Fox News host Greg Gutfeld joked that outgoing White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt could follow a well-worn path from the White House briefing room to cable news after she leaves the Trump administration at the end of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wisecrack came Thursday on \u201cThe Five\u201d as Gutfeld and co-hosts Emily Compagno, Jessica Tarlov, Charles Hurt and Shannon Bream discussed who President Donald Trump could choose to replace Leavitt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRumor has it, you\u2019re up for the job,\u201d Gutfeld told Bream, according to Mediaite<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey can\u2019t afford me,\u201d Bream shot back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gutfeld then turned the conversation toward Leavitt\u2019s own future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI worry that she\u2019ll come to work at Fox, and now we\u2019ll have three of \u2019em,\u201d he said, referring to Fox personalities Dana Perino and Kayleigh McEnany, both of whom previously served as White House press secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe already have Dana, and Kayleigh, and then we\u2019ll have Karoline,\u201d Gutfeld continued, according to The Mirror US<\/a>. \u201cAnd then they\u2019ll have their own show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hurt accused Gutfeld of making the conversation \u201cso awkward,\u201d but the panel kept the bit going by floating several Fox hosts for the high-profile White House role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gutfeld told Compagno that he could see her as a \u201cdynamite press secretary,\u201d pointing to her background as a professional cheerleader and her experience at Fox. When he joked that he was trying to get her off \u201cThe Five,\u201d Compagno replied: \u201cTo make room for Karoline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The exchange was playful speculation\u2014not a report that Leavitt is negotiating with Fox News. Leavitt has not announced plans to join the network, and Trump said her next role will keep her connected to his political operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Still, Gutfeld\u2019s joke drew on a real revolving door between the White House podium and television news. Perino served as press secretary under President George W. Bush before building a prominent career at Fox, including as a co-host of \u201cThe Five.\u201d McEnany was Trump\u2019s final press secretary during his first administration and joined Fox News in 2021<\/a>, later becoming a co-host of \u201cOutnumbered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
