{"id":12828,"date":"2026-09-14T09:52:41","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T13:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=12828"},"modified":"2026-09-14T09:52:41","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T13:52:41","slug":"trump-breaks-silence-on-request-from-lindsay-clancy-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/crime\/trump-breaks-silence-on-request-from-lindsay-clancy-lawyer\/njackson\/2026\/09\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump Breaks Silence On Request From Lindsay Clancy\u00a0Lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump is refusing to intervene in the explosive Lindsay Clancy case, telling reporters that the fate of the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children must remain in state hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump addressed the extraordinary pardon request Sunday after Clancy\u2019s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, publicly urged the president to get involved following her mistrial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a very sad situation,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThere is no winner there\u2014there\u2019s no win no matter what you do; three children are dead.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s actually a state situation, not a federal,\u201d the president added, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-responds-to-request-from-lindsay-clancy-lawyer\">The Daily Wire<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a reporter asked whether Trump would instead pressure Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz, the president again kept his distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI hope they can work it out,\u201d Trump responded. \u201cThat\u2019s something they have to work out. There is no win there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump also described Reddington as a \u201cgood attorney\u201d but stopped short of offering the political intervention the defense lawyer had sought. The president delivered the remarks while leaving Ireland following a two-day visit, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/lindsay-clancy-mistrial-kevin-reddington-president-trump\/\">CBS News Boston<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lawyer Wanted White House Pressure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reddington initially appealed directly to Trump during a \u201cGood Morning America\u201d interview after Clancy\u2019s trial ended in a hung jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she\u2019s been through, and consider a pardon,\u201d Reddington said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The request immediately ran into a constitutional roadblock. Clancy is charged with murder under Massachusetts law, while the president\u2019s pardon power applies only to federal offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pressed about that limitation during a subsequent interview, Reddington acknowledged that Trump could not directly pardon his client. He said his real objective was to persuade the president to exert pressure on Cruz, a fellow Republican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTrump would be able to reach out to one of his Department of Justice people, maybe talk to Tim Cruz, and maybe bring some pressure,\u201d Reddington said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When questioned about asking a president to pressure a local prosecutor, Reddington did not back down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t care if Mahatma Gandhi came down and pressured him into doing something,\u201d he said, arguing that he does not believe Clancy\u2019s prosecution is \u201crighteous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s response effectively closed the door on both proposals, leaving any decision about a retrial or negotiated resolution with Massachusetts authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Governor Says She Cannot Issue Pardon Either<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has also addressed the pardon controversy, saying she cannot grant clemency while Clancy\u2019s prosecution remains unresolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t have the authority to pardon,\u201d Healey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctinsider.com\/connecticut\/article\/lindsay-clancy-murder-trial-trump-no-pardon-22430607.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s in the middle of the court case, so there\u2019s no existing conviction.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That leaves Clancy\u2019s future with the courts and Cruz\u2019s office, which has not announced whether it will pursue a second trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Defense Prepares Another Legal Fight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clancy was charged with three counts of murder in the deaths of her 5-year-old daughter Cora, 3-year-old son Dawson and 8-month-old son Callan at the family\u2019s Duxbury home in January 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has admitted killing the children but pleaded not guilty by reason of a lack of criminal responsibility. Her defense maintained that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and the effects of multiple medications. Prosecutors argued that she acted deliberately and understood what she was doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The jury deliberated for approximately a week before Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Sept. 4. Reddington and several jurors have said the panel was divided 11-1 in favor of acquittal, with the lone holdout allegedly refusing to apply the reasonable-doubt standard as the other jurors understood it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reddington now plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/lindsay-clancy-lawyer-to-ask-judge-to-bar-retrial-on-double-jeopardy-grounds-12112663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ask<\/a> Sullivan to block another trial on double-jeopardy grounds, arguing that there was no \u201cmanifest necessity\u201d to declare a mistrial.
