{"id":3158,"date":"2023-02-06T10:50:41","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T15:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=3158"},"modified":"2023-02-06T10:50:41","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T15:50:41","slug":"desantis-receives-unexpected-rescue-after-being-called-racist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/featured\/desantis-receives-unexpected-rescue-after-being-called-racist\/njackson\/2023\/02\/","title":{"rendered":"DeSantis Receives Unexpected Rescue After Being Called &#8216;Racist&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received an unexpected rescue after being called a racist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Black leaders in Miami apologized to Florida Republican Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?s=Ron+DeSantis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ron DeSantis<\/a> after one of its members called him a racist last week, according to reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/miami-black-leaders-apologize-gov-ron-desantis-member-called-him-racist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Pierre Rutledge, chair of the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board, issued a statement on behalf of his board that apologized to DeSantis for a comment made at their Wednesday meeting from a member who said, &#8220;Our governor is racist.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We take it to heart when someone uses the term racist,&#8221; Rutledge said Friday. &#8220;Words matter. And so as chair, I must start by saying we want to pull that back. There\u2019s nothing wrong with saying \u2018we\u2019re sorry.\u2019 That\u2019s not what we intended to say or be depicted by anyone. And that\u2019s not the feeling of this board.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The member labeled DeSantis a racist due to the ongoing controversy of an African-American history Advanced Placement course. Earlier this year, Gov. DeSantis rejected the course because he claimed the content did not focus on Black history, instead, the course contained Black Lives Matter and queer issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis has defended the decision from his\u00a0Department of Education\u00a0to remove the African-American history course, which he said pushes a political agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;This course on Black history, what\u2019s one of the lessons about? Queer theory,&#8221; DeSantis said. &#8220;Now, who would say that an important part of Black history is queer theory? That is somebody pushing an agenda.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Black leaders and Democrats in Florida have pledged to defend and keep the course in schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The College Board removed aspects of the course last Wednesday opposed by DeSantis.
