The 2024 Republican field is about to see another challenger and he’s already getting key Senate endorsements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds (R) has committed to supporting Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) in 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rounds told The Washington Examiner on Wednesday that he has committed to backing Scott. The South Carolina Senator is expected to formally announce his campaign for president Monday in Charleston, S.C. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI do,\u201d Rounds said when asked whether he plans to endorse Scott. \u201cI\u2019ve already told him I would.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think he is the closest to Ronald Reagan that you\u2019re going to see,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rounds praised Scott as a candidate who would \u201cbring our country together\u201d and \u201ccares deeply about making the right decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI believe he will build a good team. He\u2019s got a business background. He\u2019s got a great personal story and he understands and he truly cares about people,\u201d he told The Examiner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sen. Rounds’ endorsement of Scott marks the first Republican Senator to back a candidate other than Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump has the support of 11 Senate Republicans, including Sens. Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), Mike Braun (Ind.), Ted Budd (N.C.), Steve Daines (Mont.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Bill Hagerty (Tenn.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.), Markwayne Mullin (Okla.), Eric Schmitt (Mo.), Tommy Tuberville (Ala.) and JD Vance (Ohio).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
