{"id":4855,"date":"2023-08-09T14:41:47","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T18:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=4855"},"modified":"2023-08-09T14:41:47","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T18:41:47","slug":"special-counsel-obtains-warrant-for-trumps-twitter-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/featured\/special-counsel-obtains-warrant-for-trumps-twitter-account\/njackson\/2023\/08\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Counsel Obtains Warrant for Trump&#8217;s Twitter Account"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently unsealed court filings show Special Counsel\u00a0Jack Smith\u00a0subpoenaed and obtained a search warrant related to former President Trump\u2019s account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case, which was decided in July, ordered X to turn over the documents sought by Smith and also fined the company $350,000 for a three-day delay in complying with a court order of the records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/4145619-special-counsel-won-secret-search-warrant-for-trumps-twitter-account\/\">The Hill<\/a>, The Justice Department (DOJ) first sought the records in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The filing details a months-long battle between X and the special counsel\u2019s office over the efforts to get information tied to Trump\u2019s account, with an appeals court backing a lower court ruling \u201cin all respects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe district court found that there were \u2018reasonable grounds to believe\u2019 that disclosing the warrant to former President Trump \u2018would seriously jeopardize the ongoing investigation\u2019 by giving him \u2018an opportunity to destroy evidence, change patterns of behavior, [or] notify confederates,\u2019\u201d the U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C. noted in its ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lower court\u2019s March ruling\u00a0also found probable cause to search Trump\u2019s Twitter account \u201cfor evidence of criminal offenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently unsealed court filings show Special Counsel\u00a0Jack Smith\u00a0subpoenaed and obtained a search warrant related to former President Trump\u2019s account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
