Former President Trump’s legal team is seeking a temporary stay in his New York civil fraud trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s legal team wrote in a\u00a01,154-page court filing<\/a>\u00a0that Judge\u00a0Arthur Engoron\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>decision last week imposed \u201cunauthorized, undemanded, overbroad relief\u201d to the New York attorney general\u2019s office, which will result in \u201csignificant, irreparable harm\u201d to the former president and his business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSupreme Court clearly does not comprehend the scope of the chaos its decision has wrought,\u201d Trump\u2019s attorneys wrote in the filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defense attorneys argue in the Friday filing that Engoron had \u201cno rationale or legal authority\u201d to dissolve Trump\u2019s businesses or order additional directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSupreme Court\u2019s sprawling and punitive relief is both unprecedented in a civil action in this State and indefensible under the law or any reasonable view of the facts,\u201d Trump\u2019s legal team wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey also claimed the order would \u201cunquestionably inflict severe and irreparable harm\u201d to \u201cinnocent\u201d employees who depend on Trump\u2019s businesses for their livelihoods, suggesting it threatens termination for \u201chundreds of New York employees without any jurisdiction or due process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump attorney Chris Kise informed the court and prosecutors Thursday that the defense would seek a stay of the trial and the summary judgment Engoron had issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
