On Monday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced<\/a> he is switching from Democrat to Independent in a desperate move to breathe new life into a dying campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m here to declare myself an independent candidate,\u201d Kennedy told a crowd of supporters in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI must declare my own independence. Independence from the Democratic Party,\u201d he said to loud cheers. \u201cAnd from all other political parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kennedy has formally rivaled\u00a0President Biden\u00a0from within the party since the spring, but he has not made a dent against the White House incumbent. His switch theoretically puts him closer to voters who are unhappy with both political parties, hyper-partisan politics, and want an alternative to the expected Biden-Trump options next November.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cPeople suspect that the divisions are deliberately orchestrated,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re fed up with being fooled and they\u2019re ready to take back power.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kennedy has been a frequent critic of the Democratic National Committee and has regularly lamented its decision not to hold debates with Biden as the presumptive nominee, throwing around claims that the party is \u201crigging\u201d things in the president\u2019s favor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel slammed<\/a> RFK Jr. over his switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMake no mistake \u2013 a Democrat in Independent\u2019s clothing is still a Democrat,\u201d McDaniel said in a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRFK Jr. cannot hide from his record of endorsing Hillary, supporting the Green New Deal, fighting against the Keystone Pipeline, and praising AOC\u2019s tax hikes \u2013 he is your typical elitist liberal and voters won\u2019t be fooled,\u201d McDaniel said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
