On Thursday, a federal judge rejected the latest attempt to keep Donald Trump off the 2024 primary ballot in West Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obama-appointed district judge Irene Berger\u00a0ruled<\/a>\u00a0that John Anthony Castro, the little-known presidential candidate who brought the lawsuit to remove Trump, lacked standing to sue.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cThe evidence establishes that [Castro] has no campaign offices, staff, or advertising in West Virginia, does not appear in polling, has little name recognition among West Virginia Republican primary voters, and has extremely minimal campaign funds, vastly insufficient to run an actual campaign,\u201d Berger wrote. \u201cIf there were any question as to whether the allegations in the complaint are sufficient to overcome a facial challenge, the evidentiary submissions remove any doubt that Mr. Castro\u2019s purported \u2018campaign\u2019 exists as a vehicle for pursuing litigation, not votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Federal judges in\u00a0Arizona\u00a0and\u00a0Rhode Island\u00a0likewise found Castro lacked standing because he is not seriously running for office.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision comes days after Colorado\u2019s Supreme Court\u00a0ruled\u00a0Trump was ineligible to appear on the state\u2019s ballot under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, likely teeing up a Supreme Court battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a big win for the integrity of our elections,\u201d said Republican West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey in a statement,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to News and Sentinel. \u201cThis lawsuit was frivolous to begin with and without merit \u2013 it had no basis in either law or fact. Any eligible candidate has the right to be on the ballot unless legally disqualified, and we will defend the laws of West Virginia and the right of voters and candidates to the fullest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
