{"id":6197,"date":"2024-02-23T09:52:14","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T14:52:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=6197"},"modified":"2024-02-23T09:52:15","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T14:52:15","slug":"new-york-judge-rules-on-trumps-penalty-payment-in-fraud-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/news\/new-york-judge-rules-on-trumps-penalty-payment-in-fraud-case\/njackson\/2024\/02\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Judge Rules On Trump&#8217;s Penalty Payment In Fraud Case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Will that be cash or card?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, New York Judge Arthur Engoron said he would not delay enforcement of the multimillion-dollar judgment in former President Trump\u2019s civil fraud case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, Engoron ordered Trump to pay a $354.8 million penalty, plus interest, after finding he conspired to alter his net worth for tax and insurance benefits.\u00a0Since Engoron\u2019s ruling last Friday, more than $87,000 in interest has been added to that amount each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4484008-trump-fraud-case-new-york-judge-wont-delay-enforcement-355m-penalties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Hill<\/a> has more:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Trump\u2019s legal team asked the judge\u00a0to push back enforcement by 30 days in order to \u201cprotect\u201d the defendants\u2019 appellate rights and \u201censure an orderly post judgment process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have failed to explain, much less justify, any basis for a stay,\u201d Engoron wrote in an email reply to Trump lawyer Clifford Robert\u2019s request, filed to the court docket Thursday. \u201cI am confident that the Appellate Division will protect your appellate rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A judgement has since been docketed, though it is not yet available for public viewing. The order officially starts the clock on paying any penalties.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Engoron directed Robert to inform him of any \u201cspecific\u201d differences the defense judgement would have. The Trump family lawyer said the state\u2019s proposed judgement had two errors and accused New York Attorney General\u00a0Letitia James\u00a0(D) of violating standard practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe Attorney General has not filed any motion on notice, nor moved to settle the proposed Judgment; her unseemly rush to memorialize a \u2018judgment\u2019 violates all accepted practice in New York state court,\u201d Robert said, asking for a stay in the judgement\u2019s enforcement.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will that be cash or card?
