The order also barred Trump from serving as a corporate officer or a director of a company in New York for three years, and barred his sons for two years. The Trumps did avoid the so-called \u201ccorporate death penalty;\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engoron declined to revoke the Trump Org\u2019s certificate to do business in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monetary verdicts also\u00a0incur pre- and post-judgment interest\u00a0under New York law. With interest, the total amount Trump is currently on the hook for is just over $354 million, with post-judgment interest accruing at nearly $112,000 per day.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump has previously signaled he planned to file an appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>CNN Newsroom<\/em>\u00a0anchor\u00a0Jim Acosta\u00a0described it as \u201cbreaking but not shocking news\u201d Monday morning and reported Trump will have to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/26\/politics\/trump-appeal-civil-fraud-new-york\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">put up the cash or post bond<\/a>\u00a0to sustain the appeal, as chief legal affairs correspondent\u00a0Paula Reid\u00a0noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As CNN&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/23\/politics\/trump-judgment-civil-fraud-ruling\/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the \u201ccommon practice\u201d in this New York court district is to require a bond of 110 percent, a staggering sum in light of these cumulative verdicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York fraud case and the Carroll verdicts \u201ccould wipe out a substantial amount of Trump\u2019s liquid assets,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/92390\/trump-must-pay-more-than-350-million-in-ill-gotten-gains-banned-for-three-years-from-running-n-y-biz-judge-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0Adam Klasfeld\u00a0at Just Security, noting that the ex-president had said in a deposition that his assets were \u201c\u2018substantially in excess\u2019 of $400 million,\u201d and a Bloomberg analysis \u201cestimated Trump\u2019s\u00a0liquid assets at $600 million.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, former President Donald Trump&#8217;s legal team appealed the recent civil fraud ruling by New York Judge Arthur Engoron.
