The former House Speaker and California Congressman was a mentor to Fong and endorsed him early in the race to succeed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rPAjLH4dE7\">pic.twitter.com\/rPAjLH4dE7<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Vince Fong (@vfong) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vfong\/status\/1793129704742142219?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Fong is now set to fill McCarthy\u2019s seat for the rest of the term, he and Boudreaux will go up against each other again to win a full term representing California\u2019s 20th&nbsp;congressional district this November after they both advanced from a regularly scheduled primary earlier this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McCarthy announced his exit from the lower chamber after a short tenure in the top House role ended with his historic removal from the Speakership.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to McCarthy&#8217;s resignation, Fong also filed to run for reelection in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/tag\/california\/\">California<\/a>&nbsp;State Assembly, where he represents the Bakersfield area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California Secretary of State Shirley Weber (D) attempted to keep Fong out of the Congressional race, since he&#8217;d already declared for the state-level position and California law bars candidates from appearing twice.
