Erik Connolly, Smartmatic\u2019s attorney on its case, said in a statement to The Washington Post, which first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/style\/media\/2024\/06\/10\/fox-news-smartmatic-board-subpoena\/\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;on the subpoenas. \u201cSmartmatic plans to pursue Fox\u2019s board members as well to determine why they allowed the company\u2019s most valuable asset, Fox News, to spread disinformation about the 2020 election.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Voting technology company Smartmatic subpoenaed four Fox Corporation board members on Monday as part of its $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News over its coverage of the 2020 election. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EJdnO4lOMO\">https:\/\/t.co\/EJdnO4lOMO<\/a><\/p>&mdash; The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/washingtonpost\/status\/1800292974837809580?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Smartmatic&nbsp;sued&nbsp;Fox for $2.7 billion after the 2020 election, arguing the network maliciously aired false information about its software being promoted by allies of former President Trump after the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last spring Fox paid <a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/?s=Dominion+Voting+Systems\">Dominion Voting Systems<\/a> $787 million to settle a separate defamation lawsuit. <strong>(RELATED: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/media\/report-fox-news-reaches-last-minute-settlement-with-dominion-voting-systems\/njackson\/2023\/04\/\">Report: Fox News Reaches Last-Minute Settlement With Dominion Voting Systems<\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smartmatic\u2019s case against the network is not expected to go to trial until 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/tag\/smartmatic\/\">Smartmatic<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/tag\/one-america-news\/\">One America News<\/a>&nbsp;(OAN) reached a settlement in the company&#8217;s defamation lawsuit against the conservative outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/iStock-1346156711-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59611\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSmartmatic has resolved its litigation against OANN through a confidential settlement,\u201d its lead attorney, Erik Connolly,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/new-smartmatic-and-oann-reach-settlement-in-election-defamation-suit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed to<\/a>&nbsp;Mediaite:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The company also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/podcasts\/first-amendment-lawyer-floyd-abrams-smartmatics-2-7-billion-lawsuit-is-extremely-dangerous-to-fox-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued<\/a>&nbsp;Fox News and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/tag\/newsmax\/\">Newsmax<\/a>&nbsp;for airing false claims about its role in the 2020 election. Those suits are ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the ongoing lawsuit against Fox News, in January a judge ruled <a href=\"https:\/\/americanliberty.news\/tag\/fox-news\/\">Fox News<\/a>&nbsp;Channel can proceed with its counterclaim.
