Over the weekend, Independent Sen. Joe Manchin (W.V.) shot down rumors he may join Kamala Harris on the campaign trail as her running mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked on \u201cCNN This Morning\u201d if he would consider running as VP with Harris \u2014 whom\u00a0Biden endorsed\u00a0to replace him on the ticket \u2014 Manchin said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s a new generation, you don\u2019t want a 76-year-old vice president right now,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
CNN anchor\u00a0Kasie Hunt\u00a0then asked if the nation wants a 76-year-old president, following reports that Manchin\u00a0is considering reregistering\u00a0as a Democrat to run against Harris for the nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cWell, if he feels like he\u2019s 50 maybe,\u201d Manchin quipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t worked with Kamala at all,\u201d he later added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Manchin, a longtime Democrat,\u00a0switched to an independent\u00a0in May and floated a primary bid against Biden, but he ultimately decided against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,\u201d Biden wrote in a letter<\/a> posted to social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
