A POWERFUL CASE! BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA WILL BE FORCED BY THE COURTS TO START TELLING THE TRUTH. THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR OUR COUNTRY. MAGA2024!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephanopoulos&#8217; comments were made during a tense exchange with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) on his Sunday program &#8220;This Week&#8221; in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After playing a clip of Mace discussing being a victim of rape, Stephanopoulos asked her, &#8220;How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw?&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Watch:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep Nancy Mace slams ABC\u2019s George Stephanopoulos:<br><br>\u201cYou\u2019re asking me a question about my political choices trying to shame me as a r*pe victim and I find it disgusting.\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepNancyMace?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepNancyMace<\/a> <br><br> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e8MRAGSCPY\">pic.twitter.com\/e8MRAGSCPY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Oli London (@OliLondonTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OliLondonTV\/status\/1766945664645083226?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 10, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;ve endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape,&#8221; Stephanopoulos said, alluding to the legal victory by Trump accuser E. Jean Carroll.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephanopoulos repeated that claim a whopping ten times during his ugly spat with Mace, despite the fact that a jury actually determined Trump was liable for &#8220;sexual abuse,&#8221; which has a distinct definition under New York law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the jury didn\u2019t find Trump liable for rape under New York\u2019s definition,\u00a0Judge Kaplan rejected Trump\u2019s claims that Carroll was defaming him\u00a0by continuing to describe it as that, saying the legal distinction \u201cis minimal.\u201d\u00a0<br><br>ABC and Stephanopoulos claimed that\u00a0ruling binds Trump\u2019s new lawsuit.\u00a0However, the judge on Wednesday denied the argument, also indicating it remained unclear if the anchor\u2019s statements were substantially true.\u00a0<br><br>\u201cHere, of course, New York has opted to separate out a crime of rape; and Stephanopoulos\u2019s statements dealt not with the public\u2019s usage of that term, but the jury\u2019s consideration of it during a formal legal proceeding,\u201d Altonaga, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, wrote in her ruling.\u00a0<br><br>The decision enables the case to move into the discovery process and closer to trial.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOnce again, the Court does not find that a reasonable jury must \u2014 or even is likely to \u2014 conclude Stephanopoulos\u2019s statements were defamatory,\u201d Altonaga wrote.&nbsp;<br><br>\u201cA jury may, upon viewing the segment, find there was sufficient context,\u201d she continued. \u201cA jury may also conclude Plaintiff fails to establish other elements of his claim \u2026 But a reasonable jury could conclude Plaintiff was defamed and, as a result, dismissal is inappropriate.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge has denied ABC News and George Stephanopoulos\u2019s motion to dismiss former President Trump\u2019s lawsuit claiming the anchor defamed him in a March interview.
