{"id":7434,"date":"2024-08-14T10:36:57","date_gmt":"2024-08-14T14:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/?p=7434"},"modified":"2024-08-14T10:36:59","modified_gmt":"2024-08-14T14:36:59","slug":"trump-hush-money-judge-responds-to-latest-recusal-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatamericanewsdesk.com\/news\/trump-hush-money-judge-responds-to-latest-recusal-request\/njackson\/2024\/08\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump Hush Money Judge Responds To Latest Recusal Request"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The New York judge who oversaw former President Trump\u2019s criminal trial refused\u00a0the latest request\u00a0to recuse himself from the case over his daughter\u2019s work for Democrats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It marks the third time that Judge\u00a0Juan Merchan\u00a0has refused to recuse himself, insisting there is no conflict and that he will remain on the case as it\u00a0proceeds to sentencing in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cStated plainly, Defendant\u2019s arguments are nothing more than a repetition of stale and unsubstantiated claims,\u201d Merchan&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/LegacyPDFS\/press\/pdfs\/Decision-Motion2Recuse-III.pdf\">wrote in his ruling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being denied twice, Trump&#8217;s lawyers once again filed for Judge Merchan to recuse himself after Presdient Biden ended his re-election bid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYour Honor\u2019s daughter has a long-standing relationship with Harris, including work for political campaigns. She has obtained \u2014 and stands to obtain in the future \u2014 extensive financial, professional, and personal benefits from her relationship with Harris,\u201d Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and Emil Bove wrote in their request.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But the judge spurned the accusation that he has a conflict, noting that a state ethics advisory committee last year provided guidance that he didn\u2019t need to step aside.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis Court now reiterates for the third time, that which should already be clear \u2013 innuendo and mischaracterizations do not a conflict create.
