He has notably publicly embraced Trump\u2019s tariff plans, which will be a major part of the job leading Commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CEO was considered a front-runner to serve as Trump\u2019s Treasury secretary along with Scott Bessent, who served as economic adviser on the Trump campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump just released a statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am thrilled to announce that Howard Lutnick, Chairman &amp; CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, will join my Administration as the United States Secretary of Commerce. He will lead our Tariff and Trade agenda, with additional direct responsibility for the Office of the United States Trade Representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his role as Co-Chair of the Trump-Vance Transition Team, Howard has created the most sophisticated process and system to assist us in creating the greatest Administration America has ever seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lutnick beat out Linda McMahon for the role leading Commerce who was considered a front runner and previously led the Small Business Administration during Trump\u2019s first term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McMahon is also a co-chair of his transition effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This is a breaking news story.
