Fulton County District Attorney\u00a0Fani Willis\u00a0has been\u00a0hit with a $21,578 bill for attorney\u2019s fees<\/a>\u00a0after repeatedly failing to comply with Georgia\u2019s Open Records Act (ORA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruling comes as part of a lawsuit filed by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch following an open records request related to communications with the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot. At the time, Willis\u2019 office initially claimed that no such records existed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mediaite<\/a>, regardless of repeated assurances from the DA\u2019s office, the court found that\u00a0Willis\u00a0had withheld crucial documents, including a letter she wrote to the Jan. 6 committee chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under pressure from the court, Willis later acknowledged the existence of some documents but argued that they were exempt from disclosure. The court didn\u2019t buy the explanation, emphasizing that her office failed to search for the records until forced by litigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge\u00a0Robert McBurney\u00a0criticized the DA\u2019s office for its noncompliance, noting that the \u201cRecords Custodian\u2019s own admission\u201d proved the office had ignored the records request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cNo one searched until prodded by civil litigation,\u201d he wrote in a scathing ruling.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In the court\u2019s decision on January 3, Judge McBurney highlighted the severity of Willis\u2019 repeated violations and ordered her office to pay Judicial Watch\u2019s legal fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFani Willis flouted the law, and the court is right to slam her and require, at a minimum, the payment of nearly $22,000 to Judicial Watch,\u201d said Judicial Watch President\u00a0Tom Fitton. \u201cBut in the end, Judicial Watch wants the full truth on what she was hiding \u2014 her office\u2019s political collusion with the Pelosi January 6 committee to \u2018get Trump.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The payment is due by Jan. 17th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Willis was also disqualified from the 2020 election interference case against President-elect Trump over her inappropriate relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
