The exact dollar amounts remain unclear, but the board\u2019s move clears a path for an out-of-court resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shari Redstone, the company\u2019s controlling shareholder,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/07\/business\/media\/trump-paramount-mediator-60-minutes.html\">has said<\/a>&nbsp;she favors settling the case. She is set to receive a major payday in a pending sale of Paramount to a Hollywood studio, Skydance, that requires sign-off from the Trump administration. Any settlement would ultimately require the board\u2019s approval, and Ms. Redstone has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/28\/business\/dealbook\/redstone-paramount-skydance-deal.html\">told the board<\/a>&nbsp;that she is recusing herself from deliberations related to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paramount\u2019s interest in settling has dismayed CBS\u2019s news division, in particular the staff of \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d the country\u2019s most popular weekly news program. Four days after the April 18 board meeting, the show\u2019s executive producer, Bill Owens,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/22\/business\/media\/cbs-60-minutes-trump-bill-owens.html\">abruptly announced he would resign<\/a>, citing encroachment on its journalistic independence and saying Paramount \u201cis done with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Owens&#8217; abrupt resignation has sent shockwaves through the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBS News staffers have been &#8220;on edge&#8221; since the abrupt departure of &#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; executive producer Bill Owens, according to a network insider.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Everyone is talking about it, even today,&#8221; the CBS staffer told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News Digital<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday, nearly a week after Owens announced his departure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a memo sent to colleagues, Owens suggested his decision was brought upon by corporate overreach he said impacted his ability to maintain an independent newsroom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Over the past months, it has also become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it.
