Another Democrat is calling it quits…<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Kentucky<\/a> state Senator Robin Webb, who represents Kentucky\u2019s rural 18th Senate district, revealed she is switching her party affiliation to Republican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“First and foremost, I\u2019m a mother, a rancher and a lawyer with deep personal and professional roots in Kentucky\u2019s coal country,” Webb said <\/a>while explaining the switch. “As the Democratic Party continues its lurch to the left and its hyperfocus on policies that hurt workforce and economic development in my region, I no longer feel it represents my values.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It has become untenable and counterproductive to the best interests of my constituents for me to remain a Democrat.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“While it\u2019s clich\u00e9, it\u2019s true: I didn\u2019t leave the party \u2014 the party left me,” Webb said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This comes as a major blow to Kentucky Democrats, who have historically held a stronghold in rural regions of the state largely due to union workers and the coal industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Like countless other Kentuckians, [Webb] has recognized that the policies and objectives of today\u2019s Democratic Party are simply not what they once were, and do not align with the vast majority of Kentuckians,” Republican Party of Kentucky Chairman Robert Benvenuti added<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I always respected that [Webb] approached issues in a very thoughtful and commonsense manner, and that she never failed to keenly focus on what was best for her constituents,” Benvenuti added. “It is my pleasure to welcome Sen. Robin Webb to the Republican Party.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear<\/a> told a local Louisville news outlet that he “would consider” a run as the Democrat nominee for president in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beshear is among a handful of Democratic governors who have been floated as 2028 White House potentials, which also include Gretchen Whitmer<\/a> of Michigan, Gavin Newsom<\/a> of California, JB Pritzker<\/a> of Illinois, and Josh Shapiro<\/a> of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
