Sen.\u00a0Rand Paul\u00a0(R-Ky.) had harsh words for the White House on Wednesday after he said he was \u201cuninvited\u201d from its annual picnic, a snub that came amid the Kentucky Republican\u2019s vocal opposition to\u00a0President Trump\u2019s\u00a0tax cut and spending package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, CNN\u2019s Manu Raju caught up with Paul outside the Capitol, where the senator addressed<\/a> the revoked invitation for seven minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think I\u2019m the first senator in the history of the United States to be uninvited to the White House picnic,\u201d he said. \u201cI just find this incredibly petty. I mean \u2014 I have been, I think, nothing but polite to the President.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Paul added, \u201cThe level of immaturity is beyond words.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The senator went so far as to say he has lost respect for the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m arguing from a true belief and worry that our country is mired in debt and getting worse,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they choose to react by uninviting my grandson to the picnic. I don\u2019t know. I just think it really makes me lose a lot of respect I once had for Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Paul accused White House aides of \u201crunning sort of a paid influencer campaign against me for two weeks on Twitter.\u201d He even said that \u201csomeone has told us that the White House called them from the White House, and offered them money to attack me online.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added, \u201cSo, it\u2019s silly in a way, but it\u2019s also just really sad that this is what it\u2019s come to,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut petty vindictiveness like this, I don\u2019t know. It makes you wonder about the quality of people you\u2019re dealing with.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n In a Thursday Truth Social post, Trump claimed that Paul and his family are in fact invited to the White House event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOf course Senator Rand Paul and his beautiful wife and family are invited to the BIG White House Party tonight. He\u2019s the toughest vote in the history of the U.S. Senate, but why wouldn\u2019t he be? Besides, it gives me more time to get his Vote on the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, one of the greatest and most important pieces of legislation ever put before our Senators & Congressmen\/women,\u201d the president wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paul responded to the invitation with two posts, one in which he called the president\u2019s words \u201cpromising\u201d and another in which he slapped a Make America Great Again hat on his grandson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is a promising sign of things to come\u2014and if there\u2019s one thing [President Trump] and I agree on, it\u2019s that my wife is beautiful,\u201d the senator wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
