Woke Banks Under Fire from Congress for Helping FBI Illicitly Spy on Gun Owners

Amid reports that Wall Street banks have been illicitly spying on customers and reporting gun buyers to the FBI, despite no probable cause or court-issued warrants.

In response, Congressman Rep. Alex X. Mooney (R-WV) has introduced H.R. 3021, The Protecting the Second Amendment in Financial Services Act to “expressly prohibit financial institutions and credit card companies from using a merchant category code that separately categorizes gun and ammunition transactions.”

The revelation and legislation come as the FBI finds itself under fire for widespread civil rights abuses and its role in making false claims about President Donald Trump in an apparent attempt to remove a legally-elected president.

Under the latest-revealed scheme, purchases made at gun dealers were flagged with a secret code and referred to the FBI for recording and possible investigation, despite the fact the purchases were legal and no criminal activity suspected.

Some believe the scheme was an effort to get around federal laws prohibiting the federal government from assembling its own national registry of gun owners by having banks record the data – after audits of the Justice Department revealed officials had been illicitly retaining records of gun sales reported to the federal government’s National Instant Check System.

“Leftist activists have been clear that they intend to use merchant category codes to further surveil the constitutional firearm purchases of law-abiding citizens,” said Mooney.

“The only rationale to implement a new merchant category code is to appease anti-Second Amendment activists. I am unwavering in my support of the Second Amendment, and I am proud to introduce this common-sense legislation to protect it,” said Mooney.

“Merchant category codes (MCCs) are four-digit codes that enable payment processors and banks to categorize, monitor, and collect data on various types of transactions,” a statement from Mooney explains.

“On September 9, 2022, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved a Merchant Category Code (MCC) for firearm retailers. Amalgamated Bank, a left-wing U.S. bank, led the charge in pressuring the ISO to adopt the new MCC. The ISO rejected Amalgamated Bank’s initial July 2021 application for the new MCC but approved it on the second application for reasons that remain unclear,” the statement reads.

“Amalgamated Bank and progressive Members of Congress have been open that they intend to use this new MCC to track and report lawful firearm transactions to law enforcement under the guise of ‘suspicious activity’. In other words, this MCC is the Left’s attempt to create a backdoor gun registry to further curtail the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

While American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and Discover have announced a temporary pause in the implementation of this new MCC, there has been no formal request to withdraw the MCC. Legislation is needed to ensure this is never implemented,” the statement concludes.

This legislation is endorsed by the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.

“GOA thanks Rep. Mooney for leading the fight to protect American gun owners from the anti-gun actions of the International Standards Organization. The U.S. government cannot sit idly by while a foreign entity pressures banks, payment card networks, and other American corporations to infringe on the Constitutional rights of the American people. This legislation empowers U.S. financial institutions to stand up to this foreign influence by categorically rejecting this anti-gun ‘merchant code,’” said Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs

New York Attorney General Mulls New Trump Lawsuit

New York attorney general Letitia James is considering escalating her legal fight with former President Donald Trump.

James is reportedly considering suing Trump, and potentially one of his children, after rejecting an offer from the former president’s legal team to settle a civil investigation into his real estate business.

According to The New York Times, James’s rejection of the settlement tees up the potential to sue Trump for fraud. Sources close to the matter say that James’s chances of suing Trump grew after rejecting at least one settlement offer last month. The Trump Organization has attempted for months to reach a settlement after the AG’s office informed a court in January that it had uncovered evidence the company used “fraudulent or misleading” asset valuations to secure loans and other tax benefits.

The New York AG has honed in on allegations Trump fraudulently inflated the value of his assets and has mounted a years-long inquiry. Trump has denied all wrongdoing and derided the investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt. James, a Democrat, is seeking another term as the state’s AG after abandoning a campaign for governor earlier this year.

A lawsuit from Ms. James would supercharge their drawn-out battle, offering her an opportunity to deliver a significant blow to the former president and his business, which she vowed before taking office to “vigorously investigate.” If the case goes to trial and Mr. Trump loses, a judge could impose financial penalties and restrict the former president’s business operations in New York — all potentially in the midst of a 2024 presidential campaign that he is expected to join.

It is possible that Ms. James, as part of her lawsuit, could seek to curtail Mr. Trump’s Manhattan real estate portfolio, though she has given mixed signals publicly about what sort of punishment she will seek to impose.

The New York AG could also potentially target Trump’s older children in the lawsuit. Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Trump Jr. have all been senior executives at the Trump Organization.

Sean Spicer Announces Departure from Newsmax

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer is leaving Newsmax.

In a video posted online late Thursday, Spicer, who had hosted a show on the channel for several years, teased a new venture.

“The 2024 election cycle will be in full swing before we know it,” Spicer said. “And I want to give you a front row seat to what’s happening.”

Spicer, who remains a supporter of Trump, did not expand on his new venture, but said he will be working to “expose the false narratives and the hypocrisy the mainstream media is pushing.”

Newsmax recently inked a new deal with DirecTV, one of its largest providers, after a nasty public dispute over carrier fees. The channel remains well behind the three major cable networks — Fox News, MSNBC and CNN, in the monthly ratings race.

Report: FBI Agents on the Cusp of Charging Hunter Biden

The walls are finally closing in on Hunter Biden.

Federal agents investigating President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter says they believe that they have uncovered enough evidence to charge him with crimes related to tax fraud and lying during his purchase of a handgun, according to a new report by The Washington Post.

The agents leading the criminal investigation noted that while the probe concluded months ago the facts supported federal charges against Hunter Biden, but it is ultimately up to U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the Delaware prosecutor overseeing the case, to decide whether to indict the president’s son.

The outlet said Thursday that the federal investigation into Hunter Biden initially centered around Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and consultant work in places such as China and Ukraine, but that “over time, investigators with multiple agencies focused closely on whether he did not report all of his income, and whether he lied on gun purchase paperwork in 2018, according to the people familiar with the situation.”

Senator Mike Braun (R-Ind.) filed campaign paperwork with the Secretary of State’s office on Wednesday to run for governor.

“That filing did occur yesterday,” Braun said in a brief phone conversation with Politico. “We’ll talk to you down the road.”

“Mike Braun has filed his paperwork to run for governor and will be making an official announcement of his candidacy very soon,” Josh Kelley, chief of staff and senior political advisor to Braun, said in a statement.

The filing puts speculation to rest over whether Braun would seek another term in the Senate or if he would pursue the governor’s office.

Braun’s bid for governor means his seat will be open in 2024 with both Reps. Victoria Spartz and Rep. Jim Banks voicing interest in the seat. However, the two Republicans should expect a crowded primary field in 2024.

Report: Tucker Carlson Mulling New GOP Debate Forum With Trump

Is Tucker Carlson already eyeing his way back into the spotlight?

Nearly two weeks since Carlson’s sudden exit from Fox News and new reports indicate what the primetime star’s next move could be.

According to a report from The Washington Post, Carlson has been speaking with former President Donald Trump about moderating a forum for 2024 Republican presidential candidates.

From the report:

Carlson and his team have discussed the possibility of moderating a candidate forum outside of the traditional protocols surrounding the GOP primary debate system, according to two people familiar with the considerations. These people said the setup — as well as Carlson’s availability to take on that kind of role, given the noncompete constraints of his contract with Fox — remain unclear. But Carlson has personally expressed enthusiasm about the idea, according to people familiar with his comments. At least one major candidate — Trump — has told Carlson he’s interested, according to a person familiar with the exchange.

The former Fox host’s interest in a debate is said to stem in part from its potential to loosen the Republican National Committee’s grip on the process, as well as to challenge the role traditionally played by the major television networks. “He could go straight to the candidates, stream it live, invite the networks but maintain control over the process,” said one person familiar with the discussions.

The Post notes that Carlson’s Fox contract was originally supposed to run until the end of 2024, potentially limiting his options for establishing a new media presence if he intends to collect the millions the network is still legally obligated to pay him.

However, sources told the Post that Carlson could be willing to forfeit millions if it means he’ll be able to publicly re-establish himself.

Carlson has reportedly spoken with Trump because one of his biggest ideas is to moderate his own Republican primary debate outside the bounds put in place by the Republican National Committee.

Last month, Trump indicated he plans to boycott any debates during the primaries. (RELATED: Trump Signals He Won’t Participate In Any Republican Debates)

“I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them,” Trump said to his Truth Social account. “When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA hating anchors asking the “questions,” why subject yourself to being libeled and abused? Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!”

The Daily Wire Cuts Ties With Candace Owens

On Friday, The Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing announced the company has ended its relationship with high-profile conservative commentator Candice Owens.

“Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship,” announced Boreing on X.

Owens’ departure comes after months of tensions between her and Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro over the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Mediaite has more:

In November, Boreing had insisted that Owens was “paid to give her opinion,” and that until her opinion violated the law or the terms of her contract, she would be “welcome at Daily Wire.”

But that defense of Owens came before any of her more recent and more brazen comments.

Amidst renewed attention on her anti-Semitic comments this week, Owens has doubled down. After the Anti-Defamation League noted that infamous white supremacist Nick Fuentes had been praising Owens for her rhetoric, Owens said she was “grateful” that the organization had “turned their smear merchant guns on me.

“The world already knows my heart. Their attacks will have the opposite desired effect. Awaken world,” she wrote on X.

Trump Responds to Brittney Griner’s Release

Former President Donald Trump reacted to news the U.S. has agreed to release Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, commonly known as “the merchant of death.”

In a message published to TRUTh Social, Trump called the prisoner swap terms “unpatriotic,” noting U.S. Marine Paul Whelan still remains wrongfully detained.

“What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as “The Merchant of Death,” who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries. Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking. What a “stupid” and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!!” Trump wrote.

Arizona Rejects Biden’s Demand To Remove Shipping Container Border Wall

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is rejecting President Biden’s demand to remove shipping containers that are being used to block a portion of the state’s border with Mexico.

On Wednesday, Gov. Ducey said, “Arizonans cannot — and will not — wait for federal bureaucrats to do their job and secure the border. We’re taking action now.”

Governor Ducey’s refusal comes after Biden’s Department of Interior said in a letter last week that Arizona was violating federal law by placing the containers on federal land and on the land of Cocopah Indian Tribe’s West Reservation, according to The Daily Wire.

“The unauthorized placement of those containers constitutes a violation of federal law and is a trespass against the United States,” the letter read. “That trespass is harming federal lands and resources and impeding Reclamation’s ability to perform its mission.”

A spokesperson for Ducey responded to the letter stating the governor will not entertain any proposals that directly endanger Arizonians’ safety.

“The suggestion by any federal bureaucracy, that we take action to make the border easier to cross, is completely unacceptable. Gov. Ducey takes the responsibility to protect Arizona very seriously — that’s why we put up these containers,” Ducey’s communications director, C.J. Karamargin, said in a call with the outlet. “What they’re suggesting, that we take them down and make Arizona less safe, is a nonstarter.”

The shipping container border barrier was created after the Governor signed an August order that authorized the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs to begin emergency construction to fill in a 1,000-foot-long gap in the border wall in the Yuma sector.

“Arizona has had enough,” Ducey said. “We can’t wait any longer. The Biden administration’s lack of urgency on border security is a dereliction of duty. For the last two years, Arizona has made every attempt to work with Washington to address the crisis on our border. Time and time again we’ve stepped in to clean up their mess. Arizonans can’t wait any longer for the federal government to deliver on their delayed promises.”

Arizona has experienced a massive influx of migrants since President Biden signed an executive order on his first day in office that stopped the construction of the border wall authorized by Trump. The nearly two-year crisis has caused multiple Arizona border towns to declare a state of emergency.
