Federal Judge Pauses Trump Federal Worker Buyouts

A federal judge on Thursday extended the deadline for federal workers to accept the Trump administration’s sweeping buyout offer.

The move comes as the government had set a Thursday deadline for federal workers to determine whether they wanted to take the deal – something they could do by simply replying “resign.”

Workers will now have until Monday to accept the deal, giving more time to weigh the unusual offer.

The buyouts promise employees eight months of pay and benefits in exchange for leaving the federal workforce, telling workers they would be off the hook for showing up to work and would be free to get another job.

“We are pleased the court temporarily paused this deadline while arguments are heard about the legality of the deferred resignation program. We continue to believe this program violates the law, and we will continue to aggressively defend our members’ rights,” American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) president Everett Kelley said in a statement.

This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates.

  1. “American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)” is a government employee union. There should be NO ‘government employee unions’.

    Why, you ask?

Because the real employer, “We The People” are never in the negotiations. So you have elected officials (also paid by We The People) negotiating these “union” contracts — or maybe that was also ‘delegated’ (read: authority given away) to the ‘bureaucrats of the Deep State’.

That is crap, and you know it.

  2. Our govt. is in such a sad state of affairs. The union wants to fight this? Why, cause they will lose the dues paid by those who wish to resign? So that takes precedent over what the American people want? Got it.

  3. unions are not needed anymore ( i was total union for 30 years at a time when employers didn’t have to hire women or pay was equal to men for same work) federal laws are in place for discrimination ,hourly wages, etc. The unions got to where the would make deals with management and not for the employee, wouldn’t be long before union official would be hired by management. The employee spending hard earned money on union dues that don’t provide anything more than what federal laws already provide. Same with teachers union ( not good for students)
