Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo raised eyebrows when he was recently asked if he plans to launch a presidential campaign in 2024, possibly teeing up a challenge against his old boss Donald Trump.

During a “Faith and Freedom Barbecue” event in South Carolina hosted by Rep. Jeff Duncan, Pompeo stopped short of confirming his next political move but was clear to note he would not let any outside actors influence his decision to run for office. The event is known to attract political donors as well as presidential hopefuls, other high profile Republicans in attendance included Governor Henry McMaster and Senator Tim Scott, who has also been floated as a possible presidential contender.

Mediaite reports:

“We’re going to make our decision based on if we think this is the right place for us to serve,” Pompeo said. “If I come to believe I ought to become president, that I have something to offer the American people, I will run no matter who all decides to get in and who else decides not to get in the race.”

The remark was a thinly-veiled shot at the former president who has not shied away from saying he’s seriously considering a third run for the White House. Trump’s repeated hints regarding his potential campaign have caused some conservatives to hold off on making their own decisions regarding the race.

In April, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said she planned to support Trump in 2024 and would not launch her own campaign against him.

“I would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it. That’s something that we’ll have a conversation about, at some point, if that decision is something that has to be made,” she remarked.

This is hardly the first hint Pompeo has dropped that he’s seriously considering a run for president. In June, Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked the ex-Secretary of State about his political ambitions.

“Are you planning to run for president in ’24?” she asked.

“Well, thanks for the compliment,” Pompeo deflected. “We need to build an American majority and an American coalition.”

“I’m working on 2022 all across the country helping to get folks elected,” he added. “And Susan and I will work and pray and decide how we’re going to best serve America as we move forward.”

  1. If it could happen, a Trump/DeSantis ticket would be nice. Then after 1 term, Ron DeSantis might be a shoe-in for 8 years thereafter.

    • Though I agree, if Trump and DeSantis could stop fighting long enough they might make a good team. According to reports, though, they’re a lot alike. The only thing I don’t like about DeSantis is that he’s a damn politician.

      • Fighting? Watching too much CNN? And of course DeSantis is a politician but he is NOT a Democrat politician so I have no problem with that.

    • Pompeo and Trump will be a great team because Pompeo is so good at foreign diplomacy and is well loiked by foreign leaders. Trump tackles domestic issues and Pompeo the foreign issues, gret team to have.

  2. It seems that every Republican politician who has ever spelled the word ‘president’ is being mentioned as possible contenders for the 2024 presidential nomination. I only know that if Trump does not run the Republican primary will be a free-for-all and there will be no hostages taken. Of course, this could be true even if Trump does decide to run again. This, of course, will play right into the hands of the Democrats. The Republicans will spend untold amounts of wealth attacking each other and the Anointed Democrat will sit on the sidelines laughing hardily.

  3. It’s too late for anything for this country, Republican Congressmen never challenge Biden news media never challenges Biden. It’s too far gone to save, Communism is here and they are finishing us off. Sit back put your feet up and say Fck it!

    • You seem to know what really is happening as the corrupt mainstream media has successfully brainwashed most voters. The Marxist strategy and tenet; one who controls the narrative (media) controls the people and the Democrats with billions from our enemies has successfully done that. So sad for our country full of lazy uninformed voters we can blame, but can’t do anything about it now.

    • Why? Pompeo graduated at the head of his class at West Point. He was a 4 star General. He did a really good job as Secretary of State. And last but n0t least and probably more important is the fact that he isn’t a professional career politician.

      • He will be a great VP for Trump because he was a very effective Sec. of State getting Israel and Eqypt together and some midddle estern countries who used to hate each other. He is a great Diplomat and adviser for Trump, honest and very smart. After Trump, he will be a great President because America will be respected again in the world.

      • I concur, Pompeo is one great American who performed well for our country worldwide. He kept our enemies at bay and even got them to tolerate each other and trade.

  4. I will likely vote for DJT if he runs again but will not contribute a dime until he is a ‘candidate.’ Gov. DeSantis would likely make a fine President but I would rather keep him where he is in Florida, for if Florida should fall to the blue zombies, where is our next bastion of conservatism, human dignity and human decency? Mr. Pompeo would likewise be a great President, but we shall see. Perish the technocrat elite and The Great Reset along with them!!

  5. I will vote for Trump (Mike Pompeo- a great VP) in 2024.
Next Term Pompeo (De Santis- great VP) in 2028.
Long Term De Santis (great VP-Kristi Noem)

  6. I’m sorry to say this, but if Trump is the republican candidate, the democrats will win again. The hate for Trump is too deep and widespread across this country for him to ever get elected again. The GOP better get that figured out and do something about it before it’s too late, if it isn’t already.

  7. Boaz, we just can’t think it’s too late. Having said that, I feel it’s going to be a very long very hard fight if and that’s a big IF the country ever does recover from what Biden whose taking orders from Obama, whose taking orders from that Nazy George Soros.

  8. I’d vote for Pompeo any day of the week if his opponents are the current “potentials”. He’s got it all…..smarts, savvy, great temperment, tons of foreign affairs experience, and people like him! He’s remarkbly likeable…….very important factor. I doubt anyone out there “hates” him. And, like Trump, Pompeo is not a political animal. I agree with Mr. Richards, dislike for Trump is too widespread and it would be a disaster to lose the race for that reason. Patriot that he is, Trump should be willing to step down for the sake of recovering our standing in the world. If we can’t get the woke people out of the White House, we’re doomed to hellish future.

  9. Pompeo would be level headed, honest, sincere and able to manuver around the slimmy Demo’s. He has already proved his strong skills…..Go for it ! Trump is a fighter but he seems to cause more trouble than the country can tolerate….
