President Trump said he is “prepared” to nominate another Supreme Court justice if an opening emerges, a remark that is already fueling renewed speculation about potential retirements among the court’s oldest members.

No justice has indicated plans to step down from a lifetime appointment. Still, attention has increasingly turned to Justice Samuel Alito, 76, who was hospitalized in March, as well as Justice Clarence Thomas, 77, the court’s two oldest conservatives.

“It could be two, could be three, could be one. I don’t know — I’m prepared to do it,” Trump told Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo in an interview that aired Wednesday.

The president singled out Alito for praise, calling him “one of the great justices of all time.”

“Justice Alito is an unbelievable justice and a brilliant justice and he gets the country,” Trump said. “He does what’s right for the country.”

While Trump acknowledged he is unsure whether a vacancy will arise this year, he said he is already considering potential nominees. Reports have suggested Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is among those on his shortlist, though Trump did not confirm specific names in the interview.

Any opening would carry major political stakes. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said this week that Republicans would be prepared to move quickly to confirm a nominee if a vacancy occurs before the midterm elections, according to Politico. With the GOP currently holding the Senate, confirming a justice before that balance potentially shifts would be a priority.

Trump also pointed to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as a cautionary example in discussions about timing a retirement. Ginsburg declined calls to step down during former President Obama’s second term, when Democrats controlled the Senate, and remained on the bench until her death in 2020 at age 87. Her passing allowed Trump to nominate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, solidifying a conservative majority on the court.

“She decided that she was going to live forever, and about two minutes after the election, she went out and I got to appoint somebody,” Trump said. “So, you know, you make the case that at a certain time you give it up … so that your ideology, your policies, your everything, would be of the kind that we like.”

For now, no vacancy is imminent. But Trump’s comments underscore how quickly the conversation can shift — and how closely Washington is watching the court’s senior members for any sign of change.

  1. Dear Mr. President
Please whatever happens on the placing of new supreme court justices, do not let foreign people in there like there is in Congress. Please nominate Pam Bondi as one of the people she has common sense and a good law degree. Also I have always wanted to be a supreme court justice and serve my country in making good solid decisions on what is right for the American people. I can only pray that good people who love and respect the laws and love this wonderful country are appointed. You are doing a great job no matter how much money bad people are throwing at others to stop you on making America great again!

  2. CONSERVATIVE HOGWASH!

“Justice Samuel Alito, 76, … as well as Justice Clarence Thomas, 77, the court’s two oldest conservatives.”

    Conservatives!?!

Not according to the only One with the authority to determine what constitutes conservatism. Anything left of His right is left, liberal, and ultimately ungodly.

Case in point: anyone in any of the three branches of the biblically egregious Constitutional Republic who has sworn allegiance to the biblically seditious Constitution as the law of the land. In turn, meaning, there’s never been a true conservative serving as president, legislators, or judges at any time during the 230-plus years of the Constitutional Republic’s existence.

Nor, will there ever be a true conservative representing God and His law until Americans wake up (probably via God’s judgment upon America) and the biblically abominable Constitutional Republic is eradicated and Christians build a righteous government upon its ruins.

If you believe Christ in Matthew 7:26-27 & 12:25, you know that day is coming (praise God!)!

“The United States Constitutional Republic was destined to fall from its inception. This is borne out in the following two passages:

‘And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.’ (Matthew 7:26-27)

‘[E]very kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.; (Matthew 12:25)

“The house known as the Constitutional Republic was not built upon the rock of Yahweh’s1 word, but instead upon Enlightenment and Masonic concepts.2 It began and continues as a divided house….

“The day is therefore approaching when the Republic’s cup of iniquity will be full3 and Yahweh’s longsuffering is exhausted. At that time, the Republic will be subjected to His judgment. Like all nations before her built on sand, she will cease to exist. The question that remains is whether that generation’s Christians will be prepared to build upon her ruins. If not, another ungodly nation will fill the void until finally a future generation of our posterity are prepared to erect a government and society upon Yahweh’s righteousness as expressed in His triune moral law (His commandments, statutes, and judgments).4

“It is therefore incumbent upon this and all intervening generations of Christians to do everything in their power to help prepare for that future generation of Christians to do it right(eous) the next time….”

  3. Better that we get rid of K. Brown. But first, ask her if she is married and is she married to a man or woman and how does she know. Also, ask her into which toilet she goes when she is away from her home, the men’s room or ladies’ room and why that one?

  4. I am a Christian ( with a capital ‘C’. You know … a Bible thumping, born again type person ).
But if we ever get a government that allows ONLY the Christian point of view ( remember, we Christians can be wrong too ), our form of free government will be LONG gone.
That’s the kind of thinking the Muslim states have.
    Not good!
Every LEGAL resident of the U.S.A. must have a voice in our government.
But while writing that, we also MUST keep Christian ideals as the main and major focus of our government and of our laws!
