‘We’ll Take Care of It’: Grassley Reveals Never-Before-Heard Claim From First Trump Assassination Attempt

Iowa’s senior U.S. senator, Chuck Grassley, has disclosed findings from his office’s investigation into the first assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump during a July 13 rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. Revealing the latest to Fox News, Grassley’s office shared concerning security lapses by the Secret Service, which had assured local law enforcement that it would secure the American Glass Research (AGR) building overlooking Trump’s rally – an assurance that was not fulfilled.

The building in question was later used by Thomas Matthews Crooks, the would-be assassin who fired eight shots at Trump in under 30 seconds. Three rallygoers were hit, one fatally, and Trump himself was grazed by a bullet that came within an inch of his head. Despite these dangers, no law enforcement personnel were stationed on the roof where Crooks had taken his position.

“Butler County law enforcement officials stated that at separate times during the walkthrough, when they reiterated their concerns to the agents and counter sniper about securing the AGR complex buildings, the agents responded: ‘we will take care of it,’” Grassley’s office revealed in a Tuesday letter to acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe.

The Iowa senator questioned Rowe whether the Butler County law enforcement officials’ claim is true and, if so, what the Secret Service did to secure the area with the AGR complex buildings.

Grassley noted that in the weeks following the first assassination attempt, Rowe told senators during a hearing, “what was communicated is that the locals had a plan and that they had been there before,” in regard to the roof of the AGR building where Crooks took his shots from.

Crooks’ final location was only discovered when bystanders noticed him army-crawling toward Trump. A local police officer attempted to access the roof, prompting Crooks to rush his first shot.

Startling video footage, obtained by Fox News more than two weeks after the incident, showed a figure believed to be Crooks moving across the roof of the AGR building three minutes before the attack. FBI officials later revealed that Crooks accessed the roof by climbing HVAC equipment and piping, moving across multiple rooftops to establish his position about 450 feet from Trump.

The Secret Service was aware of a potential threat 10 minutes before Trump took the stage but allowed the event to proceed. Additionally, a local law enforcement countersniper had flagged the shooter as suspicious over an hour before the attack due to his use of a rangefinder and his possession of a backpack.

Grassley’s investigation raises serious questions about the security protocols in place during the rally and the Secret Service’s handling of the potential threat.

Chris Cuomo Reveals Details Behind Recent Call To Trump

NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo revealed on Tuesday that he called former President Donald Trump after the Secret Service stopped a second would-be assassin over the weekend.

Cuomo accused the media and politicians of downplaying what should be a “cause for panic.” The former CNN host said he was not surprised as he accused the media of shrugging off the first assassination attempt on Trump too.

Watch:

Cuomo said:

What if it was Kamala Harris or President Biden, God forbid? Do you think it would be almost a shoulder shrug and more talk about the Secret Service and allocation of funds than just how crazy it is that this is what’s happening in our country? That reaction of, well, don’t make too much of it — he had an AK-47 pointed at him! The reaction is unacceptable. And it’s the second time media and political players have gotten away with playing down what should be a cause for panic.

On his phone call to Trump, Cuomo said he did not ask questions as a reporter.

“I didn’t ask him any questions. I didn’t go after him about his role. I just wanted to know how his family’s taking this,” he said, recalling his own feelings as a child fearing for the safety of his father — late New York Gov. Mario Matthew Cuomo.

Cuomo said his phone call was prompted because he was “ashamed” of the collective response to threats against the former president.

“I called him today because I am ashamed of how we are responding and now responding to the threats on him, and I feel for his family, and I know you can roll your eyes and say he asked for it — listen, that’s your choice, and I think it’s a wrong choice. We got to get out of the judgment business unless it’s judging ourselves,” Cuomo said.

Trump Breaks Silence After Second Assassination Attempt

After surviving another attempt on his life Donald Trump thanked law enforcement officers on Sunday.

“I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social

“Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”

The former president faced another apparent assassination attempt Sunday while he was golfing in Florida.

Authorities in Florida said that a Secret Service agent saw a rifle barrel sticking through a fence while Trump was golfing at his course in West Palm Beach. The agent fired shots and a man dropped an AK-47-style rifle with a scope and fled in an SUV, officials added.

Law enforcement said that authorities apprehended a man in Martin County in a vehicle that matched a witness’s description.

NewsNation reported the suspect in the apparent assassination attempt is a white male named Ryan Wesley Routh.

President Joe Biden addressed the situation in a statement on Sunday.

“A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe,” President Biden said in a statement, adding that he was “relieved” the Republican presidential candidate was “unharmed.”

“There is an active investigation into this incident as law enforcement gathers more details about what happened,” Biden said. “As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety.”

The White House also issued a statement about the situation.

“The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing,” the statement read. “They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team.”

Lawmakers have since called on President Biden to increase the level of security resources surrounding Donald Trump.

Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.), a member of the bipartisan House task force investigating the previous attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, Pa., in July, told “Fox & Friends” that the threat to Trump is “extreme” and requires a stronger level of security.

“President Biden and Vice President Harris should call for a full presidential level detail to be assigned to President Trump,” Lee said. “Clearly the threat to him is extreme and that needs to happen immediately.”

Georgia Judge Drops Two Charges In Election Case

A Georgia judge has again dropped multiple charges in former President Trump’s 2020 election interference case.

The Hill reports:

Judge Scott McAfee granted a motion from some of Trump’s co-defendants to quash three counts in the sprawling racketeering indictment brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D), finding they “lie beyond this State’s jurisdiction.”

The ruling also hands the former president a sizeable victory, as he faced two of the charges in question.

“President Trump and his legal team in Georgia have prevailed once again,” Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead defense attorney in the case, said in a statement.

Trump Rejects Harris Debate Invite

1

On Thursday, Donald Trump said he would not participate in another debate against Kamala Harris.

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH,’” Trump posted on Truth Social, asserting that he won Tuesday’s debate with Harris despite some polls showing otherwise.

The former president argued issues like inflation and immigration were discussed “in great detail” during his June debate with President Biden and during Tuesday night’s showdown with Harris.

“She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC & CBS,” Trump posted. “KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

On Thursday, the Trump campaign released a memo reporting a post-debate increase in polls for Trump while Harris remained stagnant.

Read the full campaign statement:

Last night, we conducted a survey of 1,893 likely voters across our seven key target states. We found that despite the best efforts of Kamala Harris and media to portray the debate as some kind of overwhelming win for her, voters did not see it this way as support for her remained flat. The only change we saw was a 2-point bump for President Trump in both ballot configurations.

In last week’s data (pre-debate) from our surveys (N=5,600) across our seven target states, both the full and head-to-head ballots were split dead even. In our post-debate data, President Trump leads Vice President Harris by 2-points, 48% – 46%, and in the head-to-head ballot, he is up 3-points, 50% – 47%. Clearly, target state voters were not impressed by Kamala Harris’ empty platitudes and while the media would have people believe she is cruising to victory, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Congressman Pushes Trump To Drop Out Of Race After Debate

One of the harshest responses yet…

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) suggested former President Donald Trump should consider dropping out of the presidential race following his performance in Tuesday night’s debate.

Moskowitz issued a statement on Wednesday titled, “Trump’s ability to continue campaign,” and it echoed sentiment aimed at President Biden following his clash with Trump earlier this year.

“If we are being honest, last night’s debate performance by former President Donald Trump was disastrous and hard to watch,” Moskowitz said.

“I believe now is the time for the former President to have those difficult conversations about whether or not he should continue serving as the Republican Party’s nominee for President,” he continued. “For now, I want to give him the space to meet with his family and make that decision.”

Polls from the debate show most viewers believe Harris came out on top. A CNN poll of debate watchers had 63% saying Harris won by the end of their 90-minute contest, compared to 37% for Trump.

However, Trump’s performance has not set off the widespread shock and concern among Republicans that surged through the Democrat Party following Biden’s debate performance in July. That concern ultimately forced Biden out of the race, endorsing Harris instead.

Contacted regarding Moskowitz’ statement on Wednesday, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung replied, “Moskowitz is a f—ing moron,” according to The Hill.

Fox News has extended a formal invitation to both the Trump and Harris campaigns for a second debate next month.

New York Court Rejects Trump Gag Order Appeal

1

On Thursday, New York’s high court tossed out former President Trump’s appeal of the gag order in his hush money criminal case.

In a brief order, the court said “no substantial constitutional question is directly involved” and that it would decline to hear Trump’s appeal.

The gag order, which remains in partial effect ahead of Trump’s sentencing, bars the former president from making public remarks about prosecutors or their families, but has a carveout allowing remarks about Judge Juan Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).

The former president has argued the gag order violates his First Amendment rights.

Trump asked the New York Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, to hear his challenge after his arguments were rejected by lower courts.

The gag order once prevented Trump from attacking key witnesses — such as his ex-fixer, Michael Cohen, and porn actor Stormy Daniels — and jurors, but the judge partially lifted the order after the trial’s conclusion.

In May, Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment Cohen made to Daniels.

Bush-Era Attorney General Endorses Harris

A surprising betrayal…

Former Attorney General to President George W. Bush, Alberto Gonzales is turning his back on Donald Trump.

In the same op-ed, Gonzales called former President Donald Trump “perhaps the most serious threat to the rule of law in a generation.” Gonzales wrote:

The American presidency is the most powerful position in the world. Of course, our constitution and laws, as well as institutions such as Congress and our courts, act as guardrails to that power. The law provides the certainty of accountability and fundamental fairness. Yet it is the president’s integrity, honesty and respect for our institutions that may be the most important and reliable check on abuses of power.

As the United States approaches a critical election, I can’t sit quietly as Donald Trump — perhaps the most serious threat to the rule of law in a generation — eyes a return to the White House. For that reason, though I’m a Republican, I’ve decided to support Kamala Harris for president.

The Republican AG also officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

In his endorsement, Gonzales defended her from critics who have raised concerns as to why she hasn’t accomplished more as Vice President, pointing the finger at Congress:

Trump and his surrogates will blame her for the economic policies of the Biden administration, as well as the border crisis. Based on my experience, however, a vice president truly has little to no influence on economic policy. A vice president may provide input, but it is the president who is the ultimate decision-maker. That is part of the job of being the president. Further, Congress has as much, if not more, power to affect our economy through legislation. It is as much their failure as Biden’s that child care, housing, gasoline and groceries cost too much. And as for the border, Trump and his supporters in Congress assumed partial responsibility for the tough border situation when they killed bipartisan legislation in order to help Trump’s election chances.

Ultimately, Gonzales wrote that he had more faith in Harris to carry out the duties as Commander in Chief:

Harris, meanwhile, has sworn fidelity to the rule of law as a former local prosecutor and state attorney general. Her record in law enforcement shows a clear commitment to pursuing justice. While I may disagree with some of her policies, I am hopeful she will be open to dissenting views and will act always in a manner respectful of the power of all three branches of government.

In his closing, he added that Harris was “the best suited, able and committed to unite us in a manner consistent with the rule of law.”

Trump Proposes Punishment For ABC After Debate

Trump wants answers…

Former President Trump is suggesting ABC News be punished for what he is calling a “hostile performance” by the network’s debate moderators on Tuesday evening.

“ABC took a big hit last night,” Trump said Wednesday morning during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

“I mean, to be honest, they’re a news organization. They have to be licensed to do it. They ought to take away their license for the way they did that.”

Watch:

The Federal Communications Commission does not license major broadcast networks such as ABC, but does license some local stations.

After Tuesday’s debate, which pundits on both sides say went unexpectedly poorly for Trump, the former president argued the event was “three on one,” and has not accepted Harris’s challenge to meet for a second event.

Fox News Panel Drops Surprising Reaction To Trump-Kamala Debate

5

A Fox News voter panel expressed shock and dismay at former President Trump’s apparent “lack of strategy” during Tuesday night’s debate, calling the event a win for Team Kamala.

During a vote conducted by the Fox News Digital focus group, a majority of voters—12 out of 17—believed Harris came out on top. The panel, which included Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, largely criticized Trump for his inability to adapt to a new political opponent.

One participant said: “Trump was so bad, he’s just like an old suit from like 1987 right now. He just repeats himself.”

Another added: “He is still in his head basically trying to run against Joe Biden,” said one voter. Several others echoed this sentiment, accusing Trump of rehashing old lines from past campaigns.

Despite this, the focus group wasn’t entirely enthusiastic about Harris. While many felt she handled the debate well, a few pointed out that she failed to provide specifics when pressed on critical issues.

“She knows how to pull at your heartstrings… but she wasn’t very specific when asked certain things,” one voter noted.

Currently, Tuesday’s debate is the only presidential debate scheduled between the two rivals. However, after the ABC debate, Kamala reportedly proposed a second debate in the near future.

“The American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris, or going backwards with Trump,” Jen O’Malley, the chairwoman of Harris’ campaign, said in a statement.

“That’s what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October,” she added. “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”

On Fox News, which was reporting live from the debate venue in Philadelphia after the event concluded, Trump said Harris wanted a second debate “because she lost.” Pressed by host Sean Hannity whether he would agree to another match, Trump said he might be inclined to do it “if it was on a fair network.”

Trump previously floated three debates against Harris, including the one held by ABC on Tuesday, as well as one held by Fox News on September 4 and another held by NBC News on September 25. The proposed Fox News date was later used for a town hall featuring Trump and Hannity.
