ABC News Settles Trump Defamation Suit, Issues Statement of ‘Regret’

0

Another win for Trump…

ABC News and its top anchor George Stephanopoulos have reached a $15 million settlement with Donald Trump in his defamation suit.

The settlement was publicly filed on Saturday, revealing that the two parties have come to an agreement and avoided a trial.

According to the settlement, ABC News will pay $15 million as a charitable contribution to a “Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for Plaintiff, as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past.” Additionally, the network will pay $1 million in Trump’s attorney fees.

Stephanopoulos and ABC News also had to issue statements of “regret” as an editor’s note at the bottom of a March 10, 2024, online article, about comments made earlier this year that prompted Trump to file the defamation lawsuit. The note reads, “ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC’s This Week on March 10, 2024.”

ABC News said the network was “pleased” to have concluded the case.

“We are pleased that the parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit on the terms in the court filing,” an ABC News spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Trump filed a defamation suit against Stephanopoulos after he asserted that Trump was found “liable for rape” in a civil case during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) last March.

After playing a clip of Mace discussing being a victim of rape, Stephanopoulos asked her, “How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw?”

“You’ve endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape,” Stephanopoulos said, alluding to the legal victory by Trump accuser E. Jean Carroll.

Stephanopoulos repeated that claim ten times during his spat with Mace, despite the fact that a jury actually determined Trump was liable for “sexual abuse,” which has a distinct definition under New York law.

Liberals across social media have criticized ABC News for “bending the knee” to the incoming President.

Marc E. Elias, a Democratic election lawyer, accused ABC News of bending the knee and kissing the ring by settling.

“Knee bent. Ring kissed. Another legacy news outlet chooses obedience,” he wrote on X.

“I got to think that the ABC boardroom was involved in this decision somehow,” LA Times legal columnist Harry Litman said during the MSNBC appearance on Saturday. “And my big worry to put a finer point on what Barb is saying is it is somehow caught up in the fact he will be president soon.”

State Lawmaker Arrested For Making Terroristic Threats Against Entire GOP Delegation

4

A West Virginia state delegate-elect was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill multiple lawmakers, reportedly after being informed he might be dropped from his GOP caucus position.

Del-elect Joseph de Soto, a medical doctor from Gerrardstown which is located approximately 100 miles west of Washington, D.C. allegedly threatened several other delegates, including the Speaker of the House after being told to step down.

De Soto was listed in state jail records for Berkeley County as having been booked as a “pretrial felon” for making terroristic threats.

Fox News Digital reported that De Soto was advised of a vote removing him from a position for “undisclosed reasons,” and that “he was upset” after hearing the news.

De Soto had threatened to kill several fellow lawmakers as well as House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay.

“I am focused on four people who are evil … not angry, but at peace what I need to do,” De Soto said, according to the criminal complaint. When an individual tried to stop de Soto from threatening people, his response was “I did say I am going to kill people. I said I am going (sic) what is necessary to put them (sic) from office.”

De Soto said he had a vision from the Mormon Angel of Moroni to “destroy” Wayne Clark, R-Charles Town, and Dels. Michael Hite, Joe Funkhouser and Charles Horst, all R-Martinsburg. He also claimed to have been told by God to kill another lawmaker from Weirton.

“They play stupid games, they are getting stupid awards,” de Soto wrote in an email to a person who complained to police, according to a law enforcement report obtained by Fox News Digital.

“I am upset only with the Eastern Panhandle delegates. I have only begun… and won’t stop,” he said in an email to another individual according to the complaint, which ends with: “they can all go to Hell. I will send them there as commanded,”

De Soto had been elected as a Republican in the 91st District, however, he reportedly filed to change his affiliation to Democrat shortly before his arrest.

The filing sets up a potential partisan or legal fight as to how he is replaced, a West Virginia provides that if a delegate vacancy exists, the outgoing lawmaker’s party’s county committee “shall appoint a member of the party” to the seat.

The West Virginia State House is currently 89-11 Republican.

In a statement, WVGOP Chairman Matt Herridge said the party is aware of the allegations and facts of the case, “as well as the steps the House GOP Caucus has taken toward [de Soto’s] expulsion.”

“Our elected officials sacrifice a lot to serve their communities, and it is a travesty for anyone to face the additional burden of threats made against themselves and their families. The West Virginia Republican Party supports our House leadership and their expulsion efforts.”

“We disavow and condemn the behavior of the former Republican Delegate-elect and continue to thank all those who are willing to serve their communities and state, in spite of the serious challenges it too often poses.”

Report: Biden Selling Off Border Wall Parts Before Trump Takes Office

The Biden administration will do anything to keep the border open…

According to an investigation by The Daily Wire, the Biden administration is reportedly attempting to delay construction of the Southern border wall by hauling a massive amount of border wall materials away to be sold off in a government auction.

Videos obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire from a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent show unused sections of the wall being hauled away on the back of flatbed trucks from a section of the border just south of Tucson, a hotspot for illegal crossings during the Biden administration.

The agent estimates that up to half a mile per day of unused border wall is being moved.

“They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points,” the border patrol agent, who was granted anonymity to speak freely, told The Daily Wire. “The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.”

Watch:

The Daily Wire reports:

The government contractor, DP Trucking LLC, is transporting the pieces of the wall north on Interstate 19 to Pinal Airpark in Marana, Arizona, where it is being auctioned through GovPlanet, a surplus government equipment auction marketplace.

“They just started taking all the wall that was not used, which is still totally good and usable, and they started taking it northbound,” the agent said. “They’re pulling it all off the border.”

Harold Lambeth, the owner of the trucking company, confirmed to The Daily Wire in a phone call that his company is transporting the unused border wall sections north away from the construction sites. He said he is unable to disclose further information about the work.

The auction website shows that sales occurred as recently as December 4 for the same types of materials being taken off the border. GovPlanet has online auctions set for Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 for more of the border wall material, which is listed on the company’s website as “32.91’ X 7.91’ Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout.”

The bidding for each section of wall panels is set to begin at only $5.00, according to the website.

Trump is expected to use an executive order to unlock funds to restart construction of the border wall potentially on day one of his presidency.

Arizona Rep. Eli Crane (R), called the last-minute fire sale by the Biden administration is “a direct affront to the will of the people.”

“The American people gave President Trump a mandate in November, which included the fulfillment of his plans to secure the border,” Crane said. “Any last-ditch attempt to obstruct this mandate by the Biden Administration would be a direct affront to the will of the people.”

Report: Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Donates $1M To Trump Inaugural Fund

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly contributed $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund.

The move comes as Zuckerberg has sought to strengthen his relationship with Trump over the years as the Republican emphasized his plan to focus on business and the economy upon returning to the White House.

Zuckerberg’s efforts to strengthen ties with the Republican leader included a November dinner with Trump on the patio of his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla., that focused on general relationship-building.

Zuckerberg’s team told the inaugural fund before the dinner that Meta planned to donate, one of the people told the Wall Street Journal.

Federal campaign finance reports show Zuckerberg has supported congressional candidates in both parties over the years and has largely stayed out of presidential races.

Neither Zuckerberg nor Meta donated to Trump’s inaugural fund in 2017 or to President Biden’s fund in 2021, according to public records. Both of those funds drew in $1 million in donations from fewer than a dozen major corporations, including many of the same companies.

The Zuckerberg-Trump relationship has shifted back and forth over the years. In January 2017, FWD.us, a lobbying group founded by Zuckerberg and other tech leaders supporting immigration reform, contributed $5,000 to Trump’s transition, according to public records. Weeks later, Zuckerberg criticized Trump’s executive orders around immigration, writing in a Facebook post: “Like many of you, I’m concerned about the impact of the recent executive orders signed by President Trump.”

After Trump supporters invaded the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Facebook suspended Trump from posting, as did several other social-media platforms. Following that, Trump issued a statement saying: “Next time I’m in the White House there will be no more dinners, at his request, with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife. It will be all business!”

After Trump’s election victory in November, Zuckerberg congratulated Trump in a social-media post and said he was looking forward to working with the president-elect.

Trump Invites China’s Xi Jinping To Inauguration Day

World leaders will be flocking to Washington, D.C. next month…

President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to his inauguration, a spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

In an appearance on “Fox and Friends,” Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, who will serve as press secretary in the new administration, confirmed a CBS News report that Trump invited Xi to attend his inauguration.

“This is an example of President Trump creating an open dialogue with leaders of countries that are not just our allies but our adversaries and our competitors too,” Leavitt said. “We saw this in the first term. He got a lot of criticism for it, but it led to peace around the world. He is willing to talk to anyone. He will always put America’s interest first.”

Leavitt did not say whether Xi had yet accepted the invitation to attend the inauguration, saying “to be determined” when asked by the panel of Fox hosts.

The invitation comes as Trump has vowed to impose new tariffs on China and tow a tough line on Beijing. That said, Trump has shown indications he wants to discuss matters with the U.S. adversary, he and Xi spoke on the phone shortly after Trump was declared the winner of the November election.

Trump Named TIME Person Of The Year

An honor…

After surviving two assassination attempts and a landslide election victory Donald J. Trump has had a big year, to put it mildly.

“For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s 2024 Person of the Year,” the magazine wrote.

It was widely expected Time would pick Trump; the magazine has bestowed the honor on the winner of that year’s presidential election in every race since George W. Bush in 2000. Trump was also named Person of the Year in 2016 when he first won the White House.

“Since he began running for President in 2015, perhaps no single individual has played a larger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump,” Time wrote. “Trump is once again at the center of the world, and in as strong a position as he has ever been.”

Trump became just the second U.S. president after Grover Cleveland to win non-consecutive terms after he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

Trump also became the first former president to ever be convicted of a crime in May. He was found guilty in New York on 34 counts of falsifying business documents related to covering up a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. His sentencing has since been repeatedly delayed and Trump has sought to have the case thrown out.

Other criminal cases against him in Georgia and on the federal level have either been dismissed or are in limbo as he returns to the White House.

The other Time finalists this year included Harris, billionaire Elon Musk – who was named Person of the Year in 2021 – podcasting giant Joe Rogan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Lara Trump Steps Down From RNC Amid Senate Rumors

Lara Trump has announced her plans to step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) after accomplishing her goals.

In an announcement on X, Trump’s stepdaughter said she reached her three main objectives after Donald Trump won a landslide re-election.

“With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up,” she said. “What I intended to do has been done.”

Her sudden departure has prompted speculation the Trump family member is eyeing a potential run to replace Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R), whom her father-in-law, President-elect Trump, picked to be Secretary of State.

“It is something I would seriously consider,” Lara has told outlets in reference to a run for Senate.

“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what they would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that is real for me,” Trump added.

“But yeah, I would 100 percent consider it.”

Trump, who was elected to lead the RNC alongside fellow chair Michael Whatley in March added that Whatley will remain as RNC chair.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will choose Rubio’s replacement if the senator is confirmed to lead the State Department. That replacement would serve until 2026, when a special election will be held to determine who will serve the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.

Lara Trump joined Fox News on Sunday and was asked about the vacant seat that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) left open after being tapped by her father-in-law to be secretary of State.

“Some may say it’s an asset, some may say it’s not an asset,” she said of her last name. “I think it depends how you look at it.”

Certainly, you know, we’ve all had the opportunity over the past nine years really to fully involve ourselves in politics, to understand the American people, what they want, and we’ve all been residents for the state of Florida now for over three years. If that’s something that’s put in front of me, it would be a true honor. But, yeah, look, I think probably my last name does heighten my political profile a little bit, but I’ve got a proven track record. I’ve been co-chair of the RNC during the most consequential election of our lifetime. We were so proud of what we did at the RNC making sure that there was election integrity, making sure we got the early vote on, making sure we turned out low propensity voters and raising huge amounts of money. So I would say that my track record speaks for itself. Maybe having the last name Trump is just a little bit extra. I’m always happy to have it.

Report: Trump Admin. Planning Major Loophole To Deport Illegal Migrants

The incoming Trump administration is reportedly devising a plan to remove illegal migrants from the United States.

Illegal migrants that have been ordered deported by an immigration judge, but hail from a country that refuses to take them back, may be sent to Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, Grenada, Panama or possibly elsewhere once President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House, according to NBC News.

The Trump transition team has not confirmed the proposed immigration plan.

The Daily Caller reports:

Foreign governments that refuse to take back deportees have long frustrated federal immigration authorities in multiple administrations. In lieu of remaining in detention indefinitely, many of these individuals may simply be released back into the U.S., even if an immigration judge has ordered them to be removed.

During Trump’s first White House term, he secured safe third country agreements with El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, which were intended to keep asylum seekers at bay by forcing them to seek refuge in those countries first before applying in the U.S. However, the Biden administration suspended those deals immediately upon entering office — part of a massive unraveling of Trump-era immigration policies by President Joe Biden that helped spark the current southern border crisis.

Fani Willis Ordered To Hand Over All Communications With Special Counsel Jack Smith

1

She has five days…

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been ordered to hand over all records related to her communications with special counsel Jack Smith and the House January 6 Committee.

The Georgia prosecutor is leading a controversial RICO case against now-President-elect Donald Trump and several of his top associates for alleged election interference. The case is currently frozen and Trump filed a motion to dismiss the criminal charges on Wednesday.

The Daily Wire reports:

Willis’ office claimed in March that it did not have any documents on file or communications with Smith or the J6 Committee, Fox noted. However, the claim was untrue, and the office did have such communication.

Daily Wire reporter Luke Rosiak in October revealed Nathan Wade – Willis’ romantic partner, whom she hired as special prosecutor in the Trump case – had extensive communications with the Biden White House, according to records.

Wade billed the Fulton County office for hours of meetings with the White House, the congressional January 6 committee, and other D.C. officials, according to records obtained by the House Judiciary Committee.

On November 18, 2022, he billed eight hours for “Interview with DC/White House,” but under oath, he claimed he didn’t remember the meeting and couldn’t even say whether it was online or in person. Between September 7 and September 9, 2022, Wade billed $6,000 to taxpayers for “Witness Interviews; conf call DC; team meeting,” but couldn’t remember what the D.C. meeting entailed.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney also said in his ruling that Willis violated Georgia’s open records act when she failed to respond to nonprofit Judicial Watch’s lawsuit about the communication.

Judicial Watch filed a suit in March after Willis said she does not have responsive records to the request — the same thing she had told House Republican investigators seeking details about her election interference case brought against President-elect Trump.

Willis had claimed she was not properly served, but McBurney wrote that despite confusion on the court docket initially, the prosecutor “never offered up a meritorious defense.”

She is ordered to produce any relevant records and pay attorney fees.
