Vance Responds To Trump Cabinet Speculation

    0

On Friday, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance revealed Donald Trump would more than likely appoint a Democrat to his Cabinet if he’s elected to the White House this November.

“We actually got a lot of great Democratic support, we just got RFK [Jr.], of course, Tulsi Gabbard, who endorsed the president in just the last couple of days,” Vance said Friday during an interview on “Fox and Friends,” referring to recent endorsements from Kennedy and Gabbard, the former House member from Hawaii who left the Democratic Party in 2022.

Vance’s comments came shortly after Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, said during her first sit-down interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday that she would look to appoint a Republican to a Cabinet position if she wins the election.

“I think it’s important to have people at the table — when some of the most important decisions are being made — that have different views, different experiences,” Harris said, while not naming a specific individual. “And I think it would be to the benefit of the American public to have a member of my Cabinet who was a Republican.”

Vance, who Trump tapped to be his running mate in mid-July, argued Trump appeals to a variety of voters, even if they do not agree on all of his policy proposals.

“If you look at the Trump movement in 2024, it’s actually the common sense big tent movement in American politics,” Vance said. “We don’t agree on everything. Of course, not everybody who votes for Donald Trump is going to agree with every policy issue, but we agree on the basics.”

“We agree that American energy prices should be lower. We agree that we should be making more of our own stuff in the United States of America,” he continued. “We agree that we should close down the border and stop the flow of illegal drugs and trafficking into our country. It’s just the basic common sense stuff.”

FBI Releases Additional Details On Trump Shooter

On Wednesday, a senior FBI official said that they have a “clear idea” of the mindset of the 20-year-old man who shot Donald Trump but has not determined a motive yet.

Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said in a media call on Wednesday that Crooks searched online for both Trump and Joe Biden events but saw the Trump Butler rally as a “target of opportunity,” the Associated Press reported.

Scripps News national correspondent Elizabeth Landers reported that the FBI’s media call revealed no new information about what ideology might have influenced Crooks, and the FBI said there is no evidence of a co-conspirator or foreign involvement.

The FBI also released an image of the gun used by Crooks to fire at Trump.

The FBI added that it had conducted nearly 1,000 interviews, served search warrants, and viewed hundreds of hours of video footage as it investigates the assassination attempt of a former president, ABC News reported.

A SWAT counter-sniper who was at the Trump rally in Butler said on Tuesday that it was “odd” that the FBI cleaned the roof that Crooks climbed on to shoot at Trump, potentially destroying evidence. He also agreed that it was “odd” that Crooks’ body was cremated before the coroner examined it.

US Army Issues Rare Statement On Trump Controversy At Arlington Cemetery

President Donald J. Trump is presented with a 10th Combat Aviation Brigade challenge coin following an air assault and gun rain demonstration at Fort Drum, New York, on August 13. The demonstration was part of President Trump's visit to the 10th Mountain Division (LI) to sign the National Defense Authorization Act of 2019, which increases the Army's authorized active-duty end strength by 4,000 enabling us to field critical capabilities in support of the National Defense Strategy. On Thursday the US Army released a statement defending the “professionalism” of the Arlington National Cemetery employee they believe is being “unfairly attacked” by the Trump campaign.

The statement comes as fallout over the reported incident continues after Donald Trump visited the site to mark the anniversary of the 2021 Kabul airport terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. military personnel during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan earlier this week.

The controversy was first highlighted by an NPR story on Tuesday that reported an altercation between two members of Trump’s campaign staff and an Arlington National Cemetery employee.

A cemetery official was trying to prevent filming and photography in an area known as Section 60, a solemn area for Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, to ensure the federal law against politicizing cemetery grounds was respected.

Trump campaign staff slammed the Arlington Cemetery employee as “mentally ill” and a “disgrace” to the “hollowed [sic]” military burial site.

The statement, issued on Thursday, reads in full:

Arlington National Cemetery routinely hosts public wreath laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for individuals and groups who submit requests in advance. ANC conducts nearly 3,000 such public ceremonies a year without incident.

Participants in the August 26th ceremony and the subsequent Section 60 visit were made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds. An ANC employee who attempted to ensure adherence to these rules was abruptly pushed aside. Consistent with the decorum expected at ANC, this employee acted with professionalism and avoided further disruption. The incident was reported to the JBM-HH police department, but the employee subsequently decided not to press charges. Therefore, the Army considers this matter closed.

This incident was unfortunate, and it is also unfortunate that the ANC employee and her professionalism has been unfairly attacked. ANC is a national shrine to the honored dead of the Armed Forces, and its dedicated staff will continue to ensure public ceremonies are conducted with the dignity and respect the nation’s fallen deserve.

        Respectfully,

        U.S. Army Public Affairs

On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that while the cemetery worker “filed an incident report with the military authorities over the altercation,” they “later declined to press charges” for fear of “retaliation” from Trump’s supporters.

Special Counsel Files Superseding Indictment Against Trump

        4

Special counsel Jack Smith filed a superseding indictment in his case indicting former President Trump for his actions seeking to subvert the 2020 election

The superseding indictment is an effort by the special counsel to respond to a ruling earlier this summer by the Supreme Court, which held that Trump and other former executives retain broad immunity for core actions they took as president and are presumptively immune for other actions taken while in office.

While the indictment retains the original charges – a sign of Smith’s confidence in the evidence underpinning the case – it makes significant cuts in an effort “to respect and implement the Supreme Court’s holdings.”

The filing removes former Justice Department attorney Jeffrey Clark as an unnamed, unindicted co-conspirator in the case, a reflection of specific instructions from the Supreme Court that said Trump’s conversations with Justice Department officials were protected from prosecution.

The superseding indictment is 10 pages shorter than the original, cutting lengthy examples from the original “speaking indictment” that walked through the evidence against Trump and his plots to remain in power.

But the new filing takes pains to distinguish various elements of Trump’s efforts to unwind the election as actions taken purely in a private capacity – and thus conduct that can be prosecuted.

Trump on his social media site called it “an effort to resurrect a ‘dead’ Witch Hunt” and move by Smith to “save face.”

“Deranged Jack Smith, has brought a ridiculous new Indictment against me, which has all the problems of the old Indictment, and should be dismissed IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote.

The Tuesday filing comes after Smith presented the case against the former president to a second grand jury, which had not previously heard the matter. It likewise concluded charges were warranted against the president.

Report: Georgia Judge Disqualifies Four Candidates

Does this affect Donald Trump‘s chance of winning Georgia‘s crucial 16 electoral votes?

The disqualification of four independent and third-party presidential candidates from appearing on Georgia’s November ballot could have significant implications for Donald Trump in his quest for the state’s crucial 16 electoral votes.

A state administrative law judge ruled Monday afternoon that neither the candidates nor their electors were eligible under Georgia law, delivering a setback to their efforts. However, these decisions are not yet final.

The Georgia Recorder’s Jill Nolin provides further details:

Chief Judge Michael Malihi also determined that former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. did not include his real residential address on his nomination petitions, which mirrors a recent ruling by a New York court. Kennedy announced Friday that he was leaving the race and backing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, but Kennedy has not formally withdrawn in Georgia.

Malihi handed independent candidate Cornel West a pair of mixed opinions, finding that he was eligible to run as an independent under state law but that his electors should have filed their paperwork in their own names, not the candidate’s.

The judge also concluded that the electors for Kennedy and socialist candidate Claudia De la Cruz made the same error on their paperwork.

And Malihi determined that the Green Party failed to show that their candidate Jill Stein would appear on the ballot in 20 other states, which is the threshold required under a new pathway created this year by Georgia lawmakers.

The final decision will be made by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R), whose ruling could influence the dynamics of the presidential race in Georgia.

Georgia Democrats originally objected to these third-party candidates appearing on the ballot in the Peach State. Their concerns are particularly relevant, given that President Joe Biden won Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020.

A spokesperson for Raffensperger stated Monday evening that the judge’s decisions are currently under review.

RFK Jr. Hints More Democrats Plan To Join Trump Campaign

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that he will be campaigning for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and that he expects more Democrats will be joining Trump’s campaign in the near future.

RFK Jr. made the remarks during a Sunday interview on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream after he announced last week that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump for president.

“I’m going to be campaigning actively,” he said. “I think President Trump is going to make a series of announcements about other Democrats who are joining his campaign, and you know, I want to make America healthy again, and so does President Trump. So those are objectives.”

He fired back at criticism that he received from The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board over the weekend, after Trump signaled he would work with RFK Jr. if he regains the White House this fall.

“The Wall Street Journal may be worried about shareholder value for pharmaceutical companies,” RFK Jr. said. “And I think, you know, I talked specifically to President Trump about that issue, and he said that he wanted to leave, as his legacy, healthy children, and that, you know, that he was unconcerned about the other implications.”

Tulsi Gabbard Gives Update On Trump Debate Prep

Former President Trump’s debate prep is going “great,” former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard informed Fox News.

“He knows the issues. He is very honed in on her [Kamala Harris’] record in reminding voters… ‘what have you done for the last three and a half years?’ You can paint this rosy picture about what you’re going to do, but we’re paying attention to what you’ve already done and how her policies have destroyed our economy, made us less safe, both here at home and abroad,” she told “FOX & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade.

The former president recruited Gabbard to help sharpen his skills ahead of the highly-anticipated Sept. 10 debate, where he is slated to face off against Vice President Kamala Harris at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.

Gabbard infamously tore into Harris during a 2019 Democratic primary debate for jailing hundreds of Californians for marijuana violations despite smoking the drug herself.

“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” she said during the viral exchange.

Trump Pauses Rally To Check On Woman Who Fainted In Stands

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump paused his North Carolina rally to check on an attendee who fainted during the event.

“What’s wrong? A doctor please. It is very hot here, I notice,” Trump said as people in the crowd shouted “Medic!”

After a few moments, Trump stepped down from his podium and walked toward the stands on his left, where he chatted with the smiling woman, who had revived and held a bottle of water.

            Watch:

The Republican nominee had to abandon the protection of the bulletproof glass he was speaking behind in order to approach the woman.

Trump hugged her before returning to his podium.

“Thank you very much. You know, they come two days, three days early, and it’s a lot of stress. We lose them,” Trump said when he returned to the podium on Wednesday.

The temperature was over 75 degrees in Asheboro on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s rally was Trump’s first one outdoors since a gunman made an assassination attempt on his life last month.

During Wednesday’s rally, Trump also hammered several issues, particularly foreign threats.

“Peace in Europe has been shattered by the largest European land war since the fall of Nazi Germany,” he said.

Trump also threw barbs at his opponent, noting that during the 2020 presidential race, Harris dropped out before the Iowa Caucuses.

“She ran against Biden. There were 22 people running. She was the first to leave. She quit,” Trump said. “She never made it to the first state in the primary.”

“We have stupid people running our government, and she’ll be worse than Biden because he wasn’t really a believer, but she’s a radical Left believer,” he said. “She ruined San Francisco. She ruined California, and if she gets in, our country doesn’t have a chance.”

Dem Strategist Admits 2024 Trump Could Win 2024 As Kamala Labels Herself ‘The Underdog’

              Democrats shouldn’t get too comfortable…

Despite Kamala Harris’ recent gains a longtime Democrat strategist David Axelrod still says that if the 2024 election were held today Donald Trump would more than likely come out on top.

“But this is still a very competitive race. If the election were today, I’m not sure who would win and I think it may well be President Trump because it’s an Electoral College fight,” Axelrod said.

“I’ve said several times here that, you know, for Democrat to win those battleground states, they have to have a significant lead in the Electoral College,” he continued. “Remember, Joe Biden won by seven million votes nationally last time, and a margin of 45,000 votes or 44,000 votes in the three closest battleground states combined.”

The Hill noted that while tens of millions of Americans will vote in the general election this fall, about a half-dozen of critical swing states will likely determine the race.

“So, she’s [Harris] right to be telling people it’s good to be enthusiastic, that enthusiasm is really, really important for the Democratic Party,” Axelrod added. “But you have to turn that into energetic action in order to win the election. I think that’s going to be part of what you hear here.”

Harris is leading Trump by 3 points nationally, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll released on Sunday. The poll showed Harris at 51 percent and Trump at 48 percent while the two were tied at 50 percent in the battleground states.

The vice president was asked about the poll on Sunday and whether she still considers herself the underdog in the race.

“I very much consider us the underdog. We have a lot of work to do to earn the vote of the American people,” she said.

The vice president added, “That’s why we’re on this bus tour today, and we’re going to be traveling this country as we’ve been, and talking with folks, listening to folks and hopefully earning their votes over the next 79 days.”

Trump Resets His Campaign Team Amid Harris’ Rise

                1
                Image via Gage Skidmore Flickr

ANALYSIS – Will this change the race dynamic? Earlier I asked whether, amid the media-fueled surge Kamala Harris is currently having, former President Donald Trump should bring his 2016 campaign chief back to his team.

Kellyanne Conway helped him win once, maybe she should help him again.

Well, Conway hasn’t been brought on board, yet. And some are trying to sabotage that possibility with rumors and intrigue.

But Trump appears to be taking Harris seriously by resetting his campaign team by at least bringing in other major 2016 team members, as well as some from 2020.

Critics will claim Trump is desperate, but the unfairly abbreviated campaign for Harris dishonestly created by the Democrats’ last minute candidate switcheroo, there is very little time to lose.

Among his new hires is controversial 2016 campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski who preceded Conway.  He is reportedly being brought in as a senior adviser to be above the two current co-campaign managers.

                The New Republic noted that:

Lewandowski was viewed as a fierce defender of Trump’s unorthodox approach to campaigning, according to The New York Times. When Trump was urged to soften his message to appeal to moderates, Lewandowski adopted the motto “Let Trump Be Trump.”

[NOTE – Lewandowski even co-wrote a book about working on Trump’s campaign, titled ‘Let Trump Be Trump.’]

This nonstrategy stands in stark contrast to the current state of the race, in which Trump’s allies have begun urging him to stop making personal attacks against his opponent and stay on message. As such, Lewandowski’s hiring could signal Trump pushing back on his team’s attempts to get him to focus on policy rather than his typical grandstanding.

                The Washington Post reported:

In addition to Lewandowski, the campaign is adding Tim Murtaugh, the communications director from Trump’s 2020 campaign, as well as three former officials from a pro-Trump super PAC: Alex Pfeiffer, Alex Bruesewitz and Taylor Budowich.

“As we head into the home stretch of this election, we are continuing to add to our impressive campaign team,” Trump’s co-campaign managers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, said in a statement Thursday. The five hires, they added, “are all veterans of prior Trump campaigns and their unmatched experience will help President Trump prosecute the case against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the most radical ticket in American history.”

Trump has been annoyed for weeks at the direction of his campaign, even though he makes many of the most important decisions. He has called allies asking if he should replace anyone, The Washington Post has reported.

Some 2016 alumni have voiced dissatisfaction with Wiles and LaCivita, suspecting them of controlling access to the former president and excluding or impugning longtime loyalists such as contributors to the Project 2025 policy blueprint. LaCivita has dismissed those detractors as a distraction.

When Trump rebooted his campaign team in 2016, he ended up not only showing he was serious about the race, but of course he won the White House.

Let’s hope this is part of a similar reboot. America needs Trump.
