Report:  DOJ has 99.8% conviction rate in MAGA riot cases

3

President Biden’s highly politicized FBI is on a warpath.

A report by The Wall Street Journal showed the Department of Justice’s Federal prosecutions of the more than 900 people charged with unlawfully storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, have resulted in an overwhelming conviction rate of 99.8%.

More than 180 people have been put behind bars for committing federal crimes, including obstruction, assault, and sedition.

Virtually all who have since been arrested and charged had walked off Capitol grounds that day and were only taken into custody in the weeks and months after the incident.

Federal investigators said the insurrectionists’ social media posts bragging about the undertaking greatly helped the DOJ identify and go after those who it believed committed serious crimes. Police body cameras and security cameras in the vicinity also assisted prosecutors with tracking the more than 900 charged to date.

Some have blamed former President Trump for the protest-turned-riot Special counsel Jack Smith and the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol have been evaluating Trump’s role and considering possible charges.

Last month, the House Select Committee investigating the events surrounding the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riot unanimously voted to recommend the Department of Justice criminally prosecute the former president.

White House Correspondents Reportedly Fed Up With Biden Press Secretary

There is trouble brewing at the White House.

New reports signal growing animosity between the White House press corps and Karine Jean-Pierre over her refusal to stray from talking points and her providing false information.

According to Mediaite, more than a half dozen press corps members told CNN’s Oliver Darcy that “the temperature has gone up a lot in the last few days” in the White House briefing room.

“She is arguably the least effective White House press secretary of the television era,” said one unnamed reporter who Darcy identified as a White House veteran, though this person did exclude Trump-era press secretaries from that dig.

Another White House reporter told CNN, “You just get the feeling that you’re wasting your time and whatever is in front of her in the binder is all she is going to say, no matter how many times you ask the question. It’s just a painful waste of time.”

Pressure has been building in the White House briefing room since last week. On Thursday afternoon, Jean-Pierre repeatedly said that the administration’s search for classified documents had been completed. However, that same night, five additional classified documents were found at President Joe Biden’s Wilmington, DE residence. The Press Sec. did not disclose the discovery of the documents at Friday’s briefing. The information wasn’t revealed until the White House released a statement on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Jean-Pierre was pressed on whether the discovery of classified documents had been concealed from her or whether she knew about them and intentionally misled the reporters in the room during previous briefings. After multiple, lengthy non-answers, Jean-Pierre finally said she did not know the documents had been recovered ahead of last Friday’s briefing.

“There is the expectation that when you say something, it’s going to be true,” an unnamed White House correspondent told Darcy. “That’s been the biggest credibility hit for her, it’s answering a question in a way that ends up not being true.”

Trump-Era AG Says Prosecutors Likely Have ‘Very Good Evidence’ Trump Obstructed Justice

Trump Administration Attorney General William Barr said over the weekend that prosecutors likely have “very good evidence” that the former president committed obstruction of justice.

Barr made the remarks on Easter Sunday during an interview on ABC News’ “This Week” while discussing the numerous criminal investigations into former President Donald Trump.

Barr expressed his doubts about Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s investigation into Trump’s alleged role in a hush-money scheme. The former AG said that he believes that Democrats are trying to use the investigations to “get into the middle of the Republican primary process and turn it into a circus.”

“And I think, ultimately, the savvy Democratic strategists know this is going to help Trump, and they want him to be the nominee because he is the weakest of the Republican candidates, the most likely to lose again to Biden,” Barr warned.

The former AG instead said Trump’s main concern should be the investigation surrounding the classified documents recovered in Mar-A-Lago.

The raid on Mar-a-Lago was “taken after a long period, about a year-and-a-half of trying to get the documents from him, which he had no claim to,” Barr said. “He had no claim to those documents, especially the classified documents. They belonged to the government. And so, I think he was jerking the government around. And they subpoenaed it. And they tried to jawbone him into delivering documents.”

“But the government is investigating the extent to which games were played and there was obstruction in keeping documents from them,” he added. “And I think that’s a serious potential case. I think they probably have some very good evidence there.”

Barr said that there is “a very good chance” that Trump will be criminally indicted in the case.

New York Judge Rules On Trump’s Penalty Payment In Fraud Case

Will that be cash or card?

On Thursday, New York Judge Arthur Engoron said he would not delay enforcement of the multimillion-dollar judgment in former President Trump’s civil fraud case.

Last week, Engoron ordered Trump to pay a $354.8 million penalty, plus interest, after finding he conspired to alter his net worth for tax and insurance benefits. Since Engoron’s ruling last Friday, more than $87,000 in interest has been added to that amount each day.

The Hill has more:

Trump’s legal team asked the judge to push back enforcement by 30 days in order to “protect” the defendants’ appellate rights and “ensure an orderly post judgment process.”

“You have failed to explain, much less justify, any basis for a stay,” Engoron wrote in an email reply to Trump lawyer Clifford Robert’s request, filed to the court docket Thursday. “I am confident that the Appellate Division will protect your appellate rights.”

A judgement has since been docketed, though it is not yet available for public viewing. The order officially starts the clock on paying any penalties.

Engoron directed Robert to inform him of any “specific” differences the defense judgement would have. The Trump family lawyer said the state’s proposed judgement had two errors and accused New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) of violating standard practices.

“The Attorney General has not filed any motion on notice, nor moved to settle the proposed Judgment; her unseemly rush to memorialize a ‘judgment’ violates all accepted practice in New York state court,” Robert said, asking for a stay in the judgement’s enforcement.

Georgia Judge Rules Cameras Will Be Allowed in Courtroom if Trump Indicted

6

This is big…

A judge in Fulton County, Georgia – where a grand jury is contemplating indicting former President Trump – ruled Monday morning to allow cameras in the courtroom if and when such an indictment occurs.

Monday morning, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis launched the presentation of her case to a grand jury regarding Trump and several “co-conspirators'” efforts to overturn the election in Georgia.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney is in court this week to preside over both Willis’ grand jury proceedings and other routine court matters. Monday morning, he instructed reporters and curious members of the public who were present in his courtroom about what to expect.

“If a grand jury presents an indictment, that’s usually in the afternoon, and you can film and photograph that,” said McBurney.

According to a report by The Messenger, “at least part” of the indictment “may be televised.”

If the grand jury votes to indict, be it on Monday or Tuesday, the indictment will be walked over from Willis’ office to the county courthouse by a representative of the clerk’s office, the Fulton County sheriff’s office and the grand jury.

It will be presented to McBurney to sign and be made public. The names of jurors will also be made public at that time.

If an indictment happens on Monday or Tuesday, expect it to be in the afternoon, and the media’s cameras in the courtroom will be allowed to film the moment it is made public, McBurney said.

There will not, however, be an out loud reading of the documents, he said.

“There’s no reading of anything.” There’s also no heads up for the judge of whether that indictment is coming until it’s presented to him.

According to Mediate, during his New York indictment, a photographer was permitted in the courtroom to capture a few still photos, but no video was allowed. Federal courts have long resisted allowing any sort of photography or video in their proceedings, although the unique historical nature of a former president’s indictments have increased calls for that policy to change, at least for Trump’s cases.

Report: Hunter Biden Sues Rudy Giuliani

On Tuesday, President Biden’s son Hunter filed a lawsuit against former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani alleging the former Trump lawyer violated his privacy rights by illegally disseminating content from Biden’s infamous laptop.

The complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California states Giuliani is “primarily responsible” for the “total annihilation” of Biden’s digital privacy. It also names Robert Costello, a former federal prosecutor who previously represented Giuliani, as a defendant, Fox News has confirmed.

“For the past many months and even years, Defendants have dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and energy toward looking for, hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from Plaintiff’s devices or storage platforms, including what Defendants claim to have obtained from Plaintiff’s alleged ‘laptop’ computer,” Biden’s attorneys wrote in the complaint, claiming that the data was not even from a “laptop,” but from an “external drive.”

Former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg has been released from prison.

According to reports from CNBC, he was promised a sentence of five months in jail to be served on Rikers Island and five years’ probation in exchange for his testimony and agreed to repay nearly $2 million in taxes owed.

He was sentenced to five months behind bars but was eligible for release after 100 days with time off for good behavior.

Weisselberg pleaded guilty in August to all 15 charges: one count of grand larceny in the second degree; three counts of criminal tax fraud in the third degree; one count of scheme to defraud in the first degree; one count of conspiracy in the fourth degree; one count of criminal tax fraud in the fourth degree; four counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree; and four counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Weisselberg, while no longer the company’s chief financial officer, remained employed with Trump’s family real estate firm and expected to make more than $1 million last year in salary and bonuses, according to his testimony.

In December, a Manhattan jury found two Trump Organization companies, the Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp., guilty of criminal tax fraud.

House Oversight Committee Subpoenas Major Banks For Biden Family Financial Records

The House Oversight Committee issued subpoenas to banks asking for the Biden family’s financial records.

Fox News has confirmed that the Oversight Committee subpoenaed Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC USA N.A., as well as former Hunter Biden business associate Mervyn Yan asking for financial records.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, (D-Md.) the top Democrat on the committee, accused Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) of intentionally trying to hide information regarding the investigation from Democrats on the committee.

In a statement to Fox News, Rep. James Comer said “Ranking Member Raskin has again disclosed Committee’s subpoenas in a cheap attempt to thwart cooperation from other witnesses. Given his antics with the first bank subpoena, the American people and media should be asking what information Ranking Member Raskin is trying to hide this time. No one should be fooled by Ranking Member Raskin’s games. We have the bank records, and the facts are not good for the Biden family.”

The Oversight Committee Democrat staff sent a memo to members on Thursday accusing Republicans of conducting their investigation behind a “veil of secrecy.”

“Despite this massive investment of time and resources, Republican efforts on this and other congressional committees have failed to yield any evidence of misconduct by President Biden. Nevertheless, Chairman Comer has issued six document subpoenas for financial records as part of this renewed investigation, several of which have been based on information Committee Republicans know to be false,” the memo states.

“On February 27, 2023, Chairman Comer secretly issued the Committee’s first document subpoena as part of Committee Republicans’ ongoing investigation into the Biden family to Bank of America. This subpoena sought, among other information, “all financial records” from January 20, 2009, to the present — a staggering 14-year period — for John R. Walker, a private U.S. citizen… Yet, because of Chairman Comer’s use of a secret subpoena, Mr. Walker was never notified that the Committee had subpoenaed his financial records from Bank of America, he was never notified that Bank of America turned over his records to the Committee, and he was never notified that the Committee was publicly releasing information from these records,” the memo states.
